Fred Hoiberg's son crying at end of KU-ISU game

OUKYLE, I take it your not the son of a man that coached basketball. I am. I lived and breathed my dad's games and I don't remember, but am sure I cried on occasion when he lost a tough one.

Unlike you, I was touched by the child's tears, as I saw them as evidence of a child's love for a father. It tells me something far different about Hoiberg that what you would gleen. I always liked Hoiberg and now I like him even more. I hope we beat him every time, but I like him.

Kids can and do feel the emotion of games, they just don't have the years of maturity and experiance, that thickens the skin and heart sufficiently, to allow them to guard their feelings.

You make fun of it today, but I would suggest that if you are really really lucky in your life, you will have a child sufficiently upset at a loss in your life that they cry for you.

:clap :clap

And ESPN shouldn't have put that kid or any kid in the same situation on TV.

Hoiberg isn't a whiner, but the video was funny. Move on.

Wow, your reading comprehension is awful. I don't think they should have shown his son and they certainly should not have made fun of him on national TV. That said, Hoiberg is a crybaby. And a father should not be touched by their child crying at a loss; but rather explain to them that a basketball game is not worth crying over.

This is stupid. I've seen kids cry at games many times. OU kids, tx kids, osu kids, ku kids, etc. Saying anything about Hoiberg bc the kids crying is STUPID. Every time the refs screw a team over and give those chickenhawks a win, we should all cry. It's sad.

Really? Every other kid balls like an idiot over a meaningless game? Most normal kids that age would rather be out playing with their friends or on an XBOX or iPad and aren't even watching sports because it bores them.

No, Every other kid balls like an idiot over a meaningless ____(fill in the blank.)

Whether it is a broken toy or being made fun of or having to wear that shirt to school or not getting to play in the mud with Bobby. Every kid, every last one cries like a baby at some meaningless thing at some point in his or her youth. Apparently you grew up in the village of the damned.

What are you talking about? Hoiberg is the epitome of "stoic" on the sidelines. I can't count on one hand the instances where I've seen him get visibly upset and "cry" over a call. The guy can coach and he carries himself very well in the profession. What a dumb comment.
x 2. The only guy that I would definitively say is more so is Brad Stevens.

Embarrassing posts in this thread by OUkyle and Boca.

Totally agree. My dad coached high school ball for 30 years. He won over 700 games, so there weren't many losses, and I don't recall ever crying after one of them. But I could certainly understand it happening. There's too much energy invested by coaches and their families for it not to boil over occasionally - especially by a kid as young as Fred's son. Anyone who believes that "it's just a game" to those whose livelihood is so deeply involved in it would have to swallow their hat to put it on their head.

Anyone that isn't a bit saddened by that clip is obviously not a mother. Of children.

Seriously, though, can any parent here see that kid and not think of their own? Mine's only 11 months now and I'd be doing the exact same thing mommy is if they saw a crying kid--- give em a hug

:(

How can anyone rag on Hoiberg? Thats just ridiculous. Even I like that guy and I hate everybody.

It almost has to be jealousy. This is a home town kid that stepped on the ISU campus and averaged about 12 points a game his first two seasons. Then he averaged about 20 points a game his junior and senior year. Then 10 years in the NBA, five years as a coach/NBA executive and now coaches his former college team. What a great story. Who wouldn't want to be that guy? Plus he did all this with a single negative thing that I can recall.

Compare that to Iverson or some many other professional athletes. Granted he wasn't an NBA All Star or even close to it but in some respects you have to admire the bench player with a long career because they work hard and stay in the league.

:ez-roll:

No you don't. You're an ol' teddy bear who pretends to be a hater.

I like Hoiberg... no problems with the Mayor at all.

I absolutely despise ALL that is ku basketball. And, to say OU fans have a "big brother" complex about ku is laughable. lol. I've known ku fans all my life... grew up with their ilk. And, if anything I can tell you that they are so jealous of OU it's not even funny. kstate fans probably are more jealous of OU because they actually know they have a football team... but, ku fans are very close.

Oh, and whatever "whining" Hoiberg has done after last night's game... he needs to do MORE. That was an absolute travesty... both in what happened to ISU, but also in the manner in which ku players and even Coach Hairplugs conducted themselves. It was shameful.

What did Self do? Johnson apologized for the dunk immediately after the game.

...most definitely. it's actually one of the traits I really admire around the league.

I love those guys who have the moxy to hang around year after year perhaps changing teams but always ending up on someone's roster. It tells you something VERY positive about them IMO.

Even the seemingly strange ones like "the bird" or Matt Barnes or JJ Barea. To ME all 3 of those guys would make a positive contribution to any team in the league (and don't get me started on how valuable I think COllison is to OKC).

Good point. I remember you from way back on a different board. :D

I think Hoiberg is a class act and to make fun of any child for any reason is off limits in my opinion.
