I think she's been a finalist for All-World basketball ever since we started it a few years (it used to just be for football). She is now among the state's top women's basketball recruits, and just named OU as one of her finalists.

Gabby Gregory is nearer a decision on where she will play college basketball.

The University of Oklahoma is among her five finalists, the Holland Hall standout announced Saturday in a tweet, along with Arkansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Colorado.

But that’s as far as she’s ready to go at this point, she said in a text to the Tulsa World.

“I haven’t planned any visits yet and I’m still unsure of when I will commit. I’m just taking everything a day at a time right now,” she said.

OK, nobody said anything either way, so unless someone says no, here's a feature we did on her back in February:

When she isn’t knocking down jump shots for the Holland Hall basketball team, Gabby Gregory enjoys working with ceramics.

In three semesters, she’s learned how to throw the clay, shape a piece on the wheel and fire, paint and glaze it. She’s by no means an expert, but she’s getting better at it, and she plans to continue next year.

“The arts is a really big thing here and it’s something I enjoy,” she said. “The ceramics teacher (Ms. Laurie Spencer) is so good and she makes everything fun. Every time I go to class, I can forget about homework and stuff like that. It’s so fun and relaxing.”

Spencer said one of Holland Hall’s best attributes is that it encourages even its best athletes to develop varied interests “and find their niche.”

Gregory loves the south Tulsa college prep school, which she calls “amazing.” But she found her niche a long time ago. The Sapulpa native started playing basketball in a hometown youth league when she was 4 years old and has been playing ever since.

When she started, she was too young to play in the league unless her mother, Sharon, would agree to coach her team. Later, her family moved to Plano, Texas, and for six years, she tested herself against elite competition in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

She was part of an AAU national championship team as a fourth-grader, a fifth-place national finish as a fifth-grader and a third-place finish as a sixth-grader.

Gabby Gregory said she had no idea that she had scored her 2,000th career point until the game was over Friday.

She did know she was helping push Holland Hall one rung higher on the Class 3A postseason basketball ladder.

Gregory hit seven 3-pointers, but she eclipsed the 2,000 mark on a two-pointer with 5:32 left in the fourth quarter.

This is great news. She reminds me a lot of Whitney Hand! She will be a great role player. We've got two now, how many more does everyone think we will pick up in this class? I say at most four.
 
I think Gabby may be more of a Madison-type guard, but with finesse and touch rather than speed and power. She likes to attack and score, attacking the rim if possible---from what I have seen. Madison had to be taught to score, natural instinct being rebounding and defense. Madison operates by attacking the rim with brute force, power, quickness. But, they tend to play the same position in many respects.

I think we would love to have two, probably only two. If we were to get Liz Scott, Kennedy Brown, and Laeticia Amihere, I don't think we would turn any of them down. Would you include Igbokwe at this level?

We have six freshmen and two sophomores. Adding four would make twelve, leaving three open for the following year.

A verbal commitment is nonbinding, but Gregory said she will make it official with the Sooners during the NCAA early-signing period (Nov. 14-21).

I am sure that we will have more updates on her before, during and after this winter sports season and will be sure to include them here (unless one of you beat me to it of course).
 
I just cannot see her choosing any of those other schools, but that's just me.

Personally I see little chance in OU getting 2 of the 3. I would be tickled with just 1 with Liz Scott last on my list because of our need for length. But I do have my fingers crossed for 2 as that would mean that we definitely added some needed length plus another talented player.
 
So we have 6 Freshmen, 3 sophomores which is 9 heading into next season. Say we get Bloom and Gregory, who have both already committed, this would put us at 11 heading into next season. Do you think they would take two more in that class, leaving us with only two open spots for the Class of 2020? Like Syb said, i doubt they would turn down Scott, Brown or Amihere, and realistically we won't get all three of them, but possibly 1 or 2 of them....
 
Right now, we have some height with EJ and Aspen. Next year, we will lose EJ, but have Bloom coming in. So, height, in itself, will be there. How effective is a different question.

It is my understanding that Madison is a strong person on the boards, maybe as much as ten a game. She had more than that in HS. Sometimes, you run into rebounders who are not particularly tall: Johnson of Iowa State led the Big Twelve. Wasn't she only 5-11? Davis of Baylor was a great rebounder, and became a scorer. Wasn't she 5-11 to 6-0?

I don't yet know about Aspen, Madison, Bloom, and Nydia, who is 6-3. I thought Nydia was to be a mobile post who could rebound? How much length do you expect?

I think we are also looking at Rita Igbokwe who is 6-4 or 6-5. I understand she has bloomed this summer. We are one of four offers.

Frankly, I would love to have any two of Scott, Amihere, Igbokwe, and Brown. I would like a strong defender or rebounder in the post. But, I always love scorers. They name of the game is to put the ball in the basket, and we have had difficulty with that. I am most happy if I find that we have someone who can potentially average twenty points than ten boards and a block.

I love Shaina because she hits layups. From what I have seen, Madison and Murcer hit layups. Gregory hits layups and has a good fifteen foot shot. I want to stop the empty trips.

Several months ago, I saw one report (I think it was on the Texas board) that said that Scott was the only five star prospect in Texas this year. This was supposedly a down year for Texas talent. She seems to have liked OU when she visited. I think if you can get a Scott, you go after a Scott. Supposedly, she is the best scorer in Texas this year. Scout may have been wrong.

I too think you take any quality player you can get and Scott is a quality player but I would prefer Amihere and Brown to fulfill team needs over Scott. But as is the case with all recruits we will know a lot more about their capabilities after their sophomore or junior year as few are top producers as freshmen.
