GAME 37 - THE CROWN - OKLAHOMA (21-15) vs WEST VIRGINIA (20-14) 4:30pm CST on FOX

We could significantly improve our NIL and still fall farther behind. Plus, moser still has to coach them. It’s more likely that we get worse than we get better. Moser exacerbates our weaknesses and minimalizes our strengths. Hell, when good players play well, moser sends them to the bench for the next game.

I can see a world where we continue to stay in the 19-21 win bubble range regardless of talent, but I fail to see how an NIL increase could lead us to being worse overall.

We can be worse because it might be very difficult to pull off another top ten portal class like we had this year.
Yep. In the last two years, we more or less lucked into a high lottery pick one year, then landed a very good portal class the next. Those two things resulted in one tourney bid that required a last-week rally to make the field (then get immediately bounced), and a nine-game losing streak in the middle of a total waste of a season that only saw us play well for five weeks. And let's not forget that we had the best injury luck you could possibly hope for this season. Even when things line up perfectly for Moser, he manages to fail. If things don't go well in the next month or so . . . it can be much worse.

yup.
and i can see other sec teams getting better.
so even if we stay the same....crown moser returning ensures we get worse.

Lol yes, he lucked into Lon's roster in year 1, then lucked into *something* year 3, and then lucked into Fears year 4, and then lucked into a transfer portal that almost pushed our overall roster into top 10 in conference.

Nobody is happy with being a bubble team, and I don't think anybody would be sad to see Porter go at this point, but pretending he got lucky to be a bubble team 4/5 years is just...dumb. Don't know how else to say it. There's not much reason currently to predict we'll stray more than a couple games from the bubble, just like 80% of his tenure.

I don't think you understand what quotes mean.
Oh I do. I just don’t think winning games late in the year after you’ve played your way out of the tournament means anything, with the exception that it means something to our pathetic coach who got to keep his job. YMMV

Do you really think Denny has already found the money needed to upgrade the roster for next year? I don't.
It is a lame duck season IMO. Denny is going to need time to pull together the needed money and he knows it.
He is going to get everything in order to bring in a new coach after this coming season.

I don't think we will be more talented next year. It will be another season of missing the tourney
Regardless of how you feel about Moser, or what money you think we'll have for next season, you hit on the one thing I think is important.

Do we really expect to have a more talented roster, on paper, than we had this year? Better than a top 10-11 Portal class (top 6 by average recruit rating)? Just not sure I see it.

Sounds like Forsythe is gone. I doubt we keep ALL of the other players we'd want to return. Brown is going to need a pay increase, though I'm not sure he'll be worth what we likely have to pay. Reid getting an increase. Those both eat into any increased NIL.

I expect the same team Moser has put on the course the past 5 years. For the most part, it's going to be a team that is 1-3 games on either side of the bubble. Better scheduling could help us get in. The NCAA Tournament field expanding could help us get in. But I don't think we'll be any more talented than we were this year, maybe less so.

Agree that Denny likely couldn't get a resource increase this quickly. I think he was just being prudent and wanted to have a run way for moving on from Moser that he wouldn't have had this year. Bring Moser back. NIL doesn't change much. No contract extension even if we do sneak into the Tournament. And you either fire him or hope he leaves on his own.

Our tourney hopes were alive until the final buzzer. Anybody who thinks we weren't playing for anything against Arkansas is beyond help.

Not making the tournament rendered all those wins meaningless. Had we snuck into the tournament they would have meant something.

Wait and see. I'd be shocked if we duplicated the success of last year's Portal class. On paper, we really out did ourselves. And at times, we saw that talent in how we played. Not sure if we got lucky, got some discounts, or maybe even spent a little more than the rumors suggest we spent, but from HS and Portal recruiting rankings, we probably had a top 20-30 roster.

But what about the 4 out of 5 times in the Moser tenure that we've been within a game or two of each other? He gets lucky 80% of the time?

We see the same results every year. And they aren't good enough, but they're pretty consistent.

Agree, last year's portal class had me the most optimistic i've been going into a season under PM. If we find a way to do better this offseason (and we probably will have to in order to improve on this year's result) then I'll be happy, but I really don't have expectations for this program anymore, the last 5 years have just taken a lot of joy out of watching, yet somehow I still do
