Thoughts on the game:
First, and no I don't want Moser fired, but he just can't help himself. He can't control his addiction to quit playing offense in the last 6 minutes of a game and just trying to run the clock out. He just can't stop himself. He did it again. He quit running his offense at about the 6 minute mark, ran the clock shot down and then got a horrible shot and failed to score for about the last 5 minutes. And, he took his rotations back into a shell. It he has the guys he wants to play for whatever reason and no matter how well someone else is playing he limits their minutes when under pressure. I have been a proponent of his playing Atak and Rogers all year. I thought he loosened up in the early games of the tourney, but then only played Rogers 15-16 minute and Atak a lot less in the championship. He really needs to look at his tendencies objectively and take stock of whether some of them fit the NBA style game the college has become.
You have to hedge on ball screens where the kid going over the screen can shoot the 3. Have to or against the wrong team they will just shoot you out of the game.
You have to stay under kids out to 25 feet, at least those that are shooters. Quit helping so much and just get physical with dribblers like everyone else.
Second half was nothing short of corrupt officiating. Reminded me of playing Kansas at Kansas. Officials would refuse to allow Kansas to have an empty possession in the second half. They scored or got free throws.
Good tournament save and except the last 5 or so minutes of the championship game in regulation. Fell back into the pattern that cost us the NCAA.
Key for Moser and the team next year, is he has got to be introspective about his coaching. Not all is bad, but he has to fix some things. He has to adjust to the NBA style of the game. Like BV says, everything matters. Defensively, soft pressure limits offensive possessions (in scoring position) to less than 22 seconds. Got to hedge on ball screens with good shooters involved. Got to play further out under players and not just to the 3 point line. Less help on dribble penetration and greater physicality by the defenders against dribblers. Offensively, he has got to quit playing 5 out. Whoever his posts are, he has got to work with them on scoring in the low post. Watch U Conn.
