Anyone still on the bench Gioya Carter train? She was great today, outside of the 6 TO's. She can create her own offense really well, and brings great energy.

Love her confidence and aggressive play.

She may not have another game like this the rest of the year but she was money today!

I realize I'm no college basketball expert, but it's been obvious to me since Gioya played her first game that she is the future of Sooner basketball. She is such a talented player, all she needed was time for the game to slow down for her. Well, it officially has and the rest of the Big 12 better get ready.

On another note, looks like little Edwards is also starting to settle down and show her talent and potential. I was very proud of her for her play today. She may turn in to a very capable backup point guard -- or maybe more.

This OU team is very young and will likely disappoint a few times before Big 12 play is over. But these kids showed today that they can and will be competitive in this conference. The sky is the limit for the Sooners and their best is certainly yet to come.

I think Gioya earned her time on the bench. She was flat at the beginning of the year. She made turnovers, and her shot selection was horrid. Suddenly, she has awakened from her slumber. Now, she still goes through some minute or two long stuggles with turnovers. But, she also makes some brilliant plays. The shots that she is taking are better shots for her. She is squaring up well, and the shots look good, usually. For some time, she was just throwing up wild shots.

Right now, she is doing exactly what Sherri has said she is capable of. We just hadn't seen it done this well. This Gioya can actually put us in contention for the Big Twelve.

But, she needs to keep her wits.

Sherri is usually complimentary about her players, but I've noticed from the start that Sherri has been unusually enthusiastic about Gioya. Apparently it took a little time for her to grow into her ability.

And it's not just Gioya's shot selection/shooting that has caught fire in the last few games. Hasn't anyone else noticed that she is making unbelievably great passes to teammates? Passes that often result in layups or easy baskets.

Sherri has commented that Gioya plays with an edge and she likes that. I think what she means is that Gioya is just confident/cocky enough to take it to the opponent and not back down. I suspect Sherri was much like her when she played.

She's had flashes of this kind of play since she's arrived in Norman. I believe Sherri and the staff see this Gioya during practice and that's why they've tried so hard to be patient with her. This was her best game as a Sooner! Hopefully, she gained more confidence and will be able to become more consistent with her game.

I think this team gained a lot of confidence today. I hope they can maintain it thru the rest of the season.

I believe you are right about that, tycat.

There are three players that Sherri has demonstrated a fondness for: Gioya, Kay Kay, and Maddie. We have seen moments in which we understood why.

Today, Gioya was matched up against Holmes, a pre-season All All Big Twelve player, and she looked every bit as good. She was too quick for Holmes to guard and drove right past her. I've seen Gioya look good, but I've never seen her as better than a potential All-American.

Kaylon evidently played even better than I remembered. According to the box score (link posted by Norm), she hit 6 of her 7 field goal attempts. Kay Kay was obviously money in the second half when we needed her most.

Why don't you just compliment her on a well played basketball game instead of implicitly ripping her for future performances that have not even happened yet?

Is that all that you could think of to say after a great win today?

Well, that's a good point. Instead of celebrating an important win, I'll point to the fact we had 21 turnovers.

Why's Carter even getting minutes if she's turning the ball over six times? Experienced Division 1 basketball players don't ever turn the ball over like this if they have been properly developed.

Why is Ortiz still starting? Six turnovers, three assists? This is so irresponsibile for a point guard of a team that is supposed to be a top women's college basketball team. Clearly she isn't getting any better as the season goes along. Just another example of players not developing under Coale.

This win just hides the fact we are a medicore basketball team that is not getting coached up.

I think 24 points and 6 boards easily offset 6 turnovers. Carter still needs to make better decisions but she is extremely quick and has always shown that skill. She now has developed some game and the ability to take her defender with both the left and right hand. And has begun to pull up for a good short jumper. She also makes some great passes but some she should pass on.

It is hard for me to tell whether this team is not very good or a work in progress that we can expect to get better. Much better job on the boards today but too much one on one play and silly turnovers. Also solid defense.

It was good to see KayKay and Campbell-Olds come alive in the second half. Little struggled the whole game. She is having a really hard time getting open shots. The shots she took were mostly pressured and hurried and she went 0-6 from the floor. I was suprised that she got over 30 minutes. Kornet, L. Williams and Maddie played well in brief minutes. I would have liked to see them with more second half minutes.

Ortiz had a stinker of a game. She is clearly pressing and will have to catch up to the speed of the college game. She has good potential and Sherri just has to keep working with her.

Treece was money off the bench. Not a lot of offensive production but great defense and she along with Kornet turned the team around on the boards.

Don't know what to expect at Kansas but that is a road game we need to steal.

Also had 8 boards, 7 of them being defensive boards. Loved the toughness. I think she has the potential to be the male version of Terrell Everett if she can just make better decisions and not get too ahead of herself. She's always going to turn it over, but she can certainly cut down on some of the wild/crazy plays.

Don't know who peed in your cornflakes, SKSooner, but I think I can answer some of your questions.

Carter is getting minutes because she went 24-8-3 today and has been OU''s best player the last two games. Without her we lose today.

Ortiz is starting because we don't have a lot of PG options. Edwards played well today, but she is small and has struggled at times. Also, Ortiz is still,a freshman and getting used to the college game.

As for not getting coached up, I've seen some good coaching from Sherri this year. Looks like she used non-conference to take a look at a lot of players and see how they responded. She has also used the long road trip to build some team camaraderie. Starting with Yale, she's settled on a starting 5 and shortened her bench.

I know WVU isn't that good this year, but they're an athletic team that's always given us trouble. I think we should all celebrate the win and hope the ladies can continue to improve and surprise some teams during conference play.

Coming into this game, we were a team that struggled to rebound. WV was #3 in the nation in rebounding (ESPN). They were #21 in field goal percentage (45.1%). We outrebounded them. We held them to 37% from the field and only 15% from three. Somehow, they just didn't look like a #21 team unless we were ranked about #10.

We are young, and we have struggled. But, we have played some good competition. WV was 10-2 and #21 because they hadn't. Given what has been going on in the nation, there aren't more than about five or six teams that I would fear facing with this team. We might not beat them, but I think we have a good shot at beating all but maybe five or ten teams. If we keep improving, I won't be that timid.

With four minutes left against the #21 team in the nation in a close game, we had two true freshmen and three sophomores on the court.
