Give Me Your Ideas

And please tell them to stop trying to turn OU BBall games into NBA games. We have a very good pep band, and they've done a fine job firing up the crowd in the past. When the home team is on a 10-0 run, that's a fine time for a very fast version of Boomer Sooner...it is NOT a fine time for free T-shirts or an ad for some tanning salon. Take away the roaming PA guy, and let the band do the heavy lifting.

:clap :clap :clap

The roaming PA dude and the various attempts at "timeout fun and games" just wear me out. These things are a MINUS. These things are dull. These things are not cute. These things take away from the enjoyment of a college game.

PLEASE! More Pep band. Less timeout fun and games.

Have the Univ. owned trolleys cruise through the dorms and North/South Greek to pick up students to take to games. Have them on a continuous loop for up to an hour and a half leading up to games.

Kids in the dorms never want to drive because they'll lose their spot and you could sell the Greek community that it's a function. Chicks will go if they know dudes are, and vice versa
Good idea. Need to get students there anyway possible. And there needs to be practice sessions or an email sent out with some unique cheers or chants. The students need to be more organized.
I would put up a big tent outside, serve food and beer courtesy of local vendors and have some TV's in there with other bball games on. Maybe do this for the Saturday games? This would bring in alot more people in my opionion. I also agree that the PA guy needs to go. The regular announcer and the pep band is perfect. Maybe mix in some videos on the big screen showing old highlights of great Sooner teams. Something less annoying.
I love this idea. Get the students there. Lure them in with free food. Allow people to set up grills and bring coolers. Allow people to drink. Then have really cheap tickets available at the door.

Work with OU cops and Norman PD to get people out of LN area better.
It can be a nightmare sometimes just to get out of the LN parking lot. I've seen people start jumping curbs and chaos happening because getting out can be a huge problem.

Get the students there. Run a service to bus them there.

I always thought they needed something outside. Selling food and some TV screens where you can watch some other sports before the game.

Get people on the floor! Let them move down.

I'll echo the sentiments of getting the students to the game anyway possible, getting rid of the annoying PA guy, using the score/video board for actual game information, and use more pep band and spirit squad. Reclaim the college atmosphere!

I'm a big proponent of bringing back Top Daug. At least let Lon know that people would want that.

nails meet chalkboard

I'll echo the thoughts of removing the roaming PA guy, shuttling students to games, and the large tent outside. There is zero atmosphere outside of the LNC prior to the games and having some kind of party tent would be a great start. If you can shuttle students, that would allow them to keep their parking spots and some people underestimate the walk from the dorms to the LNC and then BACK again on a cold December/January/February night.

In a perfect world, you'd tell Kruger to get them to renovate the student section in the LNC because it isn't good, but that's a long-term expensive project. Think the 2 games in McCasland is just a freaking awesome idea and I can't wait to go.

It was my understanding that there already is a shuttle that takes students to the LNC and back, or so any number of posters have said here over the years. Is that not the case?

As a student at OU, the student section needs to be closer to the court. If it were closer I feel more students would come and you could truly get the atmosphere of a college basketball game. Get rid of the normal seating for students and put bleachers that are 2 ft away from the court.

There is going to be a shuttle this year from the dorms, to my understanding. The one you are thinking of is the bus from the LNC to the South Oval

There are still plenty of seats court-side with us, best seat in the house

So these students we so desperately desire to be courtside can't even be bothered to walk to the South Oval?

What's next, arranging individual valets to zip their jeans and tie their shoes an hour before tip-off?

If you are going to walk to the south oval from the dorms, you might as well walk to the LNC.

The point is they need a quick shuttle from the dorms to the arena

I agree. The South Oval is in the opposite direction from the dorms. Why not have a shuttle that sets up between the dorms on 3rd (I think)? I used to walk from Walker to every game my freshman year, because I could slam several beers on my way there.

I know the South Oval is the opposite direction, but it's not very far from the dorms -- it's certainly not as far as LNC -- and once you're on a bus or shuttle, who cares if you're traveling an extra block or three?

I'm 54, and I walk 1.3 miles to and from work every day -- the same distance that Cate Center is from LNC -- so I can't feel too sorry for 19-year-olds being asked to walk to the South Oval or even to the LNC. I'm not sure where the excuses end with our students. Perhaps chauffeured limos would lure them from their dorm rooms.

The Party Bus would probably have more luck.

Remembering how hard it was for my daughters to find parking when they were freshmen, I can sympathize somewhat with people not wanting to lose their parking spots. Maybe they need more shuttle buses than they've had in the past.

Good for u. Want a cookie? The whole point is making it easier for students to go. Not yelling at them to get off your lawn. You seem to forget how lazy college kids are

I guess they have been coddled all their lives so we can't stop now.
