Wow. Marcus Fizer. That was one big man...

I remember watching Jeff Greyer back in the day. That dude could play, too.

Ok, I thought this was funny:

"Iowa State: Where we make your most unknown player a superstar."

Yup. I liked Kelvin Cato and Dedric Willoughby as well. Willoughby was a gazelle out there.

If we're discussing memorable Iowa State teams, there is no choice but to mention the Jacy Holloway/Hoiberg/Julius Michilik/Loren Meyer teams of the mid-90s. Probably the most unfortunate looking team I have ever seen. I still miss Jacy Holloway and his elf ears and the defense teams employed against him, which can only be described as: "we see no reason to guard this guy." Michilik looked like a 45-year-old man at the age of 20.

They were good, though.

Rememeber when Loren Meyer got hit by a train? When they came to Norman everybody and their dog was making the "choo choo" noise when he touched the ball. Hilarious.

Those were some of the most hideously ugly teams I can ever recall.

Willoughby and Cato were REALLY good. We beat them at the buzzer in Norman in '97 and those dudes ended up making it to the Sweet 16.

The ISU program was at its peak 10 years ago at this exact time. They just concluded an Elite Eight season in 2000. Like OU in 2009, ISU was stuck playing the best team in college hoops in the Elite Eight that year (Michigan State). Despite losing Fizer, the 2001 team was awesome (led by Tinsley), and I think they were the #1 seed in the Big XII Conference. They were upset by Baylor, though, in the first round (after the bye), yet still got a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, that program simply hasn't yet recovered from losing to #15 seed Hampton.

Funny thing is this thread IS very much like dthe drivel posted on this and amny other OU boards regarding OUr coach,OUr players, and OUr team as whole. I don't understand so-called fans who bash their players, coaches,AND TEAM.

I drank beer with Cato right after he signed his agent. He literally had one wall of his kitchen covered from floor to ceiling with cases of beer. We lived next door to him in Ames. Pretty cool guy.

That pic is vs OU in 2000. I would venture to guess it's in the finals of the big 12 tournament at Kemper because we only played them in Norman that season and won in OT. I was at that game and it was awesome. They owned us in KC though.

That's Kelley Newton and Eddie.

Kelvin said walking into Kemper that day was like venturing into the Colosseum in Rome. Kemper held 18,000 or so, and Kelvin guessed 17,000 of them were ISU fans.

That was a REALLY good Iowa State team. I still have no idea why the Tournament Committee forced them to play Michigan State in Detroit to go to the Final Four.
