Good Luck tonight Pokes

I am surprised Byron Houston could actually type all those words........... you know, because of the "sweaty palms".

As well you might, given that it's the only decade since the 1950s that oswho's had any notable success.

The 2000's were pretty nice! Two conference championships, a Final Four, a couple of Elite Eights, three Sweet 16's.

Yeah - don't let these facts get in the way of your lame smack talk, skyvue.

That's what I get for not doing my homework and relying on my feeble memory.

But I suspect HoHum's doing a little doubling up there. oswho was in the tourney seven times in the 2000s. I find it hard to believe they went to at least the Sweet 16 six out of those seven seasons.

Is that not the proper way to do it? They had three seasons in the 00's where they got to the Sweet 16 or further. Made the tournament 7 out of 10 times, which isn't all that great. But, I wonder what the average percentage of High-Major schools in the NCAA tournament was during that span?

Yeah - I probably wouldn't count those twice.

The 2000s were really a tale of two halves for OSU:

2000-05:
  • Six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances
  • Final Four (2004)
  • Elite Eight (2000)
  • Sweet Sixteen (2005)
  • Overall NCAA Tournament record: 10-6 (.625)
  • Big 12 champions (2004)
  • 2x Big 12 tournament champions (2004, 2005)

2006-09:
  • One NCAA Tournament appearance (2009)
  • Overall NCAA Tournament record: 1-1
  • Three NIT first-round losses (2006-08)

Is that not the proper way to do it? They had three seasons in the 00's where they got to the Sweet 16 or further.

If a team makes the Final Four, it's a given that they made the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, so to my knowledge, those aren't usually cited.

Nothing wrong with a Sweet 16, an Elite Eight, and a Final Four in one decade, and describing it that way offers a more accurate picture, i think.

OU = 3 losing seasons on last 5

OSU = No losing seasons since 1988

We fired a coach for two seasons OU fans would die for.

LOL at this poster acting like there's some drastic difference between OU and Ok. State's program...

Furthermore, I love how you're acting like two losing seasons ultimately fails when measuring the overall success of a program. Seriously?

Ok. State fans might disagree, but I would be perfectly fine taking OU's stature and accolades from 1988 (since you arbitrarily used that as your reference point) until now compared to Oklahoma State's. A National Title appearance, another Final Four, conference championships, and a plethora of wins compared to most NCAA programs gives my argument a leg to stand on. In fact, since OU holds such a decisive advantage in the overall head-to-head series, I'd be willing to bet that they hold the series advantage since your chosen year of 1988, too.

Although I will take OU's success since your reference point of 1988 (and overall program success as well), I will concede that Ok. State has had a better two-year run. Congrats on only having a 5-4 series advantage during OU's worse two-year stretch in over 30 years. You can now go back to beating your chest over Ok. State's valiant and courageous NIT effort.

I guess as long as you beat OSU, losing seasons are OK. We're your "bowl" game.
