So I didn't watch the KU or OSU games live, but I DVR'ed them. I decide to watch the first half of the KU game, you know the one good half we've had the last 5 games. Well, we still didn't play that well, at all. Stupid embarassing turnovers, terrible shots, etc. The thing is we were lucky and some of them went in, which obviously hasn't happened on the road. I decided to take about 8-10 possessions each for each team, and count how many passes each team took before they shot. KU for that stretch averaged about 7-8 probably, with quite a few 9-10 pass possessions. OU probably averaged maybe 2-3with MANY 1 pass possessions. I mean, Grooms dribbling around, everyone standing around, then someone launching an early, contested brick.
I know we are offensively challenged form a shooting and handles perspective. But I seem to remember in Kelvin Sampson's first year, him talking about the importance of role players, setting hard screens, and working to take good shots. Does OU spend all their practice time on their switching man-to-man defense. If we dont have the talent to run, you would think they would spend more time on having some sort of functional picking, passing, fluid motion type offense. Maybe Kruger does, and they just suck at running it?
I noticed that after many of the "one and done" passing possessions the coaches appeared to do/say nothing. I would have thought the Kruger was more of an X and O guy, and would at least be screaming for the guys to be more disciplined in their shot selection.
If we are going to have next to no wins in conference, it's be nice to at least see some disciplined, structural improvement. And hey who knows, that may lead to more wins? Don't know, but right now regardless of bricks, turnovers, etc our half court offense looks attrocious...
