It takes a special kind of stupid to want to get rid of a guy who will be a senior next year.

meh. it just makes some people feel better about themselves if they criticize others regarding a joint interest. they rarely stop to consider the potential cost to their actions. often when they get older they figure out that it's more constructive to stay positive. but until then they remain selfish.

And lazenby goes back down to d2

Constructive criticism is fine, but posts like this are never appreciated...families and friends of the players read these posts. However, these families and friends also get to read the responses, so all is good. OU got to the Sweet 16 and Final Four with C.J. Cole on scholarship, which tells me these players likely make a huge impact in practice. My guess is that Ty Lazeby is such that player who makes his impact behind the scenes. I hope he finishes his collegiate career at OU.

Posts like the one above are yet another example of why this board is better than the football boards. We actually have adults here.

They won't run Lazeby off but he could decide that he wants more playing time which isn't likely to happen in Norman. He also may be ecstatic being on a great team.

I can think of only one time lack of scholarships hurt OU basketball, the Bliss Baylor implosion.

Yup...Lawrence Roberts. Not getting him cost Kelvin a clean run of 12-for-12 in NCAA Tournament appearances. And think of how good that 2005 #3 seed team would have been with him (though we may not have landed Taj Gray). He wound up being one of Mississippi State's all-time best players...but we got even several years later with Romero Osby.

The competition at wing will be even more fierce next season when we add Jamal Bienemy to the mix. That guy is really good. James, McGusty, Odomes, Lazenby, and Bienemy. Also, Manek or Doolittle could slide over if they want both players on the court at times. Add in Sheperd but most of his minutes next season will probably be at PG.

Even backup wing minutes will be tough to come by.

When was the last time a JUCO transfer played up to his full potential in the first 10 games of his Sooner career?

The adjustment period is real.

In the next two seasons, I expect we'll all be met with moments and games where we're ecstatic that Ty is slingin' the ball at the hoop for the good guys.

Not likely!

I don't have a problem with Lazenby as long as he's OK with his role. He's been getting his minutes in non-conference games. I get what you're saying about an adjustment period from juco to D1, but Manek has adjusted from 3A HS ball to D1. Just saying. I hear Ty is a really good 3-point shooter so maybe he heats up as he becomes more comfortable. As long as he's happy and a good teammate, I'm all in favor of him finishing as a Sooner.

He better be good next year because Bienemy will challenge him for backup wing minutes.
