Hield: "I think we can win it all"

We won't be playing the 13 or 14 seed.

Yep...at worst, we will be playing a #15 seed. Teams that are in that "15-seed range" are (Kenpom ratings):
Weber State - 130
UNC-Asheville - 112
New Mexico State - 109
Wagner - 162
Lehigh - 163

For comparison sake, TCU is #149 and Oklahoma State is #100. On a neutral floor, OU would be anywhere from a 12 pt to 15 pt favorite against any or all of those teams.

Pretty sure you thought Manyang would contribute WAY more than he has this year too.

No offense, but I'm going to stick with my own opinions, and not really worry about yours. Cool?

Is it literally 0%? I already said probably not. But it's also not 0% that we win in round 1 either. I chose to leave out what I felt like were pretty small percentages. I'd bet a pretty large sum of money we fall out in one of the three buckets I noted above.

Your opinions are as valid – or more so – than any on this board. Problem is, you keep changing them. First you say 25% "one and done," now you're saying you didn't really mean it. Second, you said 0% Final Four, now you're hedging your bets by admitting there is a chance.

Like I said, I respect your opinions. But I do find this amusing.

I expect this team to get to the second weekend, they have enough talent and experience to withstand any upset bid. After that, it's all about match-ups. Anyone making predictions on how far this team will go without seeing the bracket is just guessing.

Yep. For example, I don't think UNC can win it all, but I think they'd give us fits because of their size/rebounding edge - and their ability to guard the perimeter.

Not hedging anything. Those percentages are MY predictions. A completely accurate account of percentages would have a percentage for OU doing everything from losing in round 1, to winning the entire thing. Basically, I rounded. If something had less than a 5% chance of happening in my opinion, I treated it as zero. My personal opinion is OU has nearly no shot at a FF, barring some upsets that having OU playing a team like Slippery Rock in the Elite 8.

I hope they prove me wrong.

Although UNC has the best inside game and is probably the best rebounding team in the country, they can't shoot the 3 to save their lives....and that will be their downfall eventually.

Agreed. I just don't want to play them, because I think their strengths could hurt us.

Marcus Paige is having a terrible year - without him playing at a high level they are nowhere near the same team. If they can get the guy they had at points last year they do have a chance to win it all but that is asking a lot at this point. I doubt anybody really has much trust in Roy getting his guys ready for tourney time also.

Our guys need to focus on the little things that win games especially as these games become more meaningful. Expectations however should really be kept in check at this point as we haven't played high quality basketball in a month sans a game or 2 and to really advance in the upcoming tourney we need to change some fundamental issues this team has. Course hoping we end up with some great matchups to push the odds in our favor.

I can think of four "little things" right off the top of my head that would help this team immensely:
  • being strong with the ball/securing the ball on rebounds
  • decreasing the careless dribbling/loose with the ball
  • less driving into the lane or to the basket without a plan (and jumping in the air with nowhere to go with the ball)
  • more player movement on offense....when guys stand around, the offense becomes stagnant and has to rely on "one on one" plays.

I agree completely but these are things young teams deal with. These shouldn't be major concerns for a team with 3 and 4 year starters. We don't value the ball and we are inconsistent on defensive effort.

Yet we're still 24-6 for the year, ranked No. 6 in the land, have a shot at a #1 seed in the NCAAs, and have more wins over Top 25 than all but a handful of teams.

Just sayin'.

That's what's disappointing, with our talent and experience we should have won the big 12 and be soaring into the postseason. I'm not confident in a final four run and it is upsetting because this is the year we could win the thing but we aren't playing at that level right now.

I feel your pain dk. But I've got to believe we can still get back to playing at an elite level. In any case, it's almost do or die time.

Well maybe we'll be on here celebrating a conference tourney championship in 5 days!

I haven't given up hope just confidence that we'll play well. I hope we'll at least sell out on defense and if a couple guys are hot we can beat most teams. At Iowa St tells most of the story. We hit 17 threes and lost.
