Jessi Murcer, Westmoore
Jessi Murcer was anxious Friday.
Westmoore had a big game that night against Class 5A No. 1-ranked Lawton Eisenhower. And Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale had informed Murcer she would be in attendance.
“That gave me a little extra motivation,” Murcer said.
The future OU guard played one of her best high school games, scoring 36 points in 78-67 win over Lawton Eisnehower.
The next night, she scored 21 as Westmoore beat Choctaw to win the Lady Jaguar Classic championship.
Murcer is The Oklahoman’s Player of the Week.
During the three-day tournament, Murcer averaged 25 points as the Jaguars improved to 10-3 and pushed their ranking to No. 3 in Monday’s coaches’ poll.
Westmoore has won five straight since a loss to Class A No. 1 Seiling in the Tournament of Champions.
“I think it’s only going to benefit us throughout the postseason,” Murcer said. “We’ve got an advantage on some other teams, I think.”
