High School History Question

The 1988 Millwood team with Terry Evans, Joey Mickey, Brian Hopgood and Co. was TOOUUUUUUUUGH!!!!! They beat pretty much everyone in every class, including Byron Houston's Star Spencer team.

I think they beat my Wagoner Bulldogs in either the state semis or state final, can't remember which. :(

Wow, those names are a blast from the past! Ed Bruner from Wewoka was solid, they had a very salty team for a small school.

I played against a bunch of those guys on that list.

The biggest bummer is Estell Laster. What a waste of talent! That kid had unbelievable athleticism. It's interesting because I've done a lot of work with guys from the OKCPD Gang Unit and they mentioned him one time. He was into gangs and drugs big time. Sad stuff.

He had one of the most incredible poster dunks that I've ever seen in a one on one drill during a OK Rams practice after my junior year. Crazy stuff for a 6'2 guy.

BTW was less well coached (JMHO) but had a higher talent level than JM. Two future NBA players (Thomas/Humphreys), one NFL player (McQuarters), and 3-4 other D-1 athletes (Hill, Tiger, Reed, and a big guy that also went to Syracuse--Greg Something).

I'd also put the McGuinness teams with Crawford, Bluitt, Amous, and Merritt above Douglass along with the '02 PCO team (SmithX3, Hayden, etc)

As far as the depth of pure athleticism is concerned, BTW has to be the best in OK history. The fact that they had 7 D1 bball-football athletes is impressive, but when you consider that two made it to the NBA and one to the NFL, that is astonishing.

I can't imagine how sick of a tight end Humphrey would have been had he just concentrated on football... If I remember correctly he was pretty salty in high school with his connection with Tiger.

Wow, this is definitely a blast from the past. I was actually a senior at El Reno in 94-95 and played against a lot of these guys over the years. Just wanted to mention some names that were suprisingly not on the list..........
Roland Miller(Guthrie) JJ Moore(Ardmore) Chad Minor(Noble) Robert Fomby(Bishop Kelley) Billy Lewis(Enid) Rodney Foster(Westmoore) Anthony Davis(El Reno) Derale Wilson(Carl Albert) Chip Hobbs(Douglass) Anyways, just a few more to add to the list. There was definitely a lot of talent in that 94-95 season.

Tulsa McLain had some good teams with Seals and even before Seals was in HS.
But they couldn't beat Ardmore! Lost to the Tigers in the state finals in both '93 and '94.

If anybody wants to drop me to my knees with a kidney punch then just go ahead and bring up Guthrie in '95. I'll get over it. Someday.

Don't look up! :)

Great additions! That Carl Albert team was one of the most talented teams in the state. I watched them take on John Marshall in our summer league (summer of '95) and the final score was like 110-104. CA had a kid named Jimmy something who could jump out of the gym!

What about the kid from El Reno...Aaron something? Went to OCU? That kid could absolutely fly!

Harrah also had a great squad in '96. Robert Thornton was a baller.

Also, Star Spencer '96 who won the state title in 4A. They had a big ole boy in the middle, about 6'5 260, John Hart I think was his name. Then they had a bouncy 6'6 kid who was skinny as a rail.

Aaron Howell was the El Reno kid...played with him growing up then obviously owned him in high school since Ardmore owned everyone except Norman...

The skinny 6'6 Star Spencer kid was Leon Irving "LE LE"...played with him in Juco then he went on to ORU and had a nice career...

Yeah I guess you could say Ardmore owned us cuz we never beat them. They beat us in the finals of the Holiday Festival in 94 by one or two that came down to the wire. Whatever happened to the likes of Willie Nelson and Chad Deathredge. It's almost hard to believe that outta all the talent on those teams that Taj Johnson was the only one that went on and had a nice college carrer. Aaron Howell could definitely fly, I still don't think I've seen a kid with ups like that at the high school level. Aaron went on to win a National Title at OCU and now coaches at Moore High School. I've added a video of him dunking on a kid in college.

Derrick Moore "would have" had a nice college career, but tore his knee up during his first year at Tulane. He was their starting PG as a freshman, and the Green Wave had some pretty solid teams back then under Perry Clark.

Leon Irving. That's him. Played against him in the Little All City game. John Hart looked like Ice T, that is if Ice T gained 200 pounds!

Robert Fomby(Bishop Kelley)

Seems like we (Claremore) used to always light him and Potter up pretty good.

We'd go into Area or State at 23-1 or 22-3, or whatever, then Grissom and Heard and Adkins would be waiting for us. Jesus, those JM teams were really fast.
