From what I saw, you sure wouldn't believe this as a team with every player except one who were veterans. Missed about ten or fifteen lay ups, post players clanging it off the backboard. Now the best post player tonight was V P Louis, best player on the court was Peyton, T Edwards looked good driving the ball to the hoop, but got most if them blocked. Maddie hit som threes, drove and dished. Wyatt finally hit a couple of threes, but she still turns down open shots. Penzo had her knee taped, but didn't lymp. She made a couple of nice passes and run well. Williams didn't seem in the moment some of the time, still made some silly fouls. But I give her props for fouling trying to make defensive players. Carter stood at the end line and watched all night, same with Treece, she had a soft cast on thumb and wrist. Kellogg, what can I say? Not agtessive enough. Runs the floor like a deer, and handles the ball well. One of the coaches should work with her down low on how to post up in the paint area. Overall ok, but will get much better and and better organized on defense. Lots of combinations with this team, not as much drop off after the top 6 players.

Kellogg looks like a player but she just doesn't have a high basketball IQ.

Not surprised they Peyton was the best player on the floor.

I hope that Gioya is close to Peyton when she gets back.

I was afraid that Kaylon would continue to foul.

I hope vivi's 27 pts 11 reb is an indication of what she can do this season. 29 from Peyton is incredible also.

I would like to see the box score just to see how Maddie can shoot 8 of 15 from the field (some of which were threes), and only score 15 points. That can't happen.

I can't say that any of that is unexpected. I don't know that we can do any projections with that. I was pleased to see that Derica shot well from three. Did Kay Kay only play defense? I'll be interested to see how they perform next week.

I guess all of us will have different opinions on the scrimmage tonight, so here is my take, for what it's worth. First, I went to see the GIRLS play. I understand the value of the boys scout team that Sherri has used over the years, that is fine, but for one night, one scrimmage, let the girls take the stage and show us what they can do for four quarters. Just had to vent.

Maddie is going to be a monster on the court. She has her swagger back. She is playing at a high level, shooting behind the arc, driving to the rim, playing solid defense, and passing the ball and anticipating better. As she goes, so will the Sooners.

Gabbi, solid, good all around game, just an extension of last year.

Vivi and Kaylon. I liked what both of them showed tonight. If I had to pick between one of them from tonight's scrimmage, I would take Vivi by a slim margin. Kaylon looks improved from the fouling problem, but still shoots bricks. Vivi just look a little more solid and hit some tough shots tonight. We do have the luxury of two solid post girls to depend on.

Peyton looked great to me. Shot the ball okay for the first scrimmage in front of fans and made good decisions. Good to see she will pick up where she left off.

Derica looked comfortable in her role. She made some nice shots, but needs to aim for a little better percentage. She won't get you beat on the defensive end. Solid fundamentals.

T'ona was a nice surprise. She has worked on her offensive game and is getting better. She has no fear in the land of giants in the paint. Good defense, and handled the ball well, just some forced passes that hopefully in time won't happen.

Shaya needs to never shoot a three, period. She can be a good rebounder and should post up. Not bad on the defensive end.

LaNesia is solid and can give good minutes. Like her toughness in the lane, needs to work on finishing on a consistent basis.

Penzo will be a good player, can handle the ball, and pass, I think she is a year away from contributing.

E J played sparingly, however I noticed her defense was good. She kept her arms and hands straight up and did not slap at the ball, she is another that will be a year away, but has a high ceiling I think.

Treece and Carter sat out with their injuries, but both should be back to their old selves when they return, and just make this team stronger.

I liked what I saw, even though the scrimmage did get a little ragged at times. This will be a very good team and as they work their way through the conference season, I think they will be better than last years team. Just for what its worth.

Some good points. Hopefully the Vionese performance is for real because that is an area we can make a big difference. Total of 11 boards as well.

Biggest suprise for me was Penzo 2 points in 32 minutes and Odimgbe 1 point in 25 minutes. Not a strong indicator of much help there this year.

KayKay only 2 fouls in 45 minutes but not a lot of points.

Maddie filling up the scoresheet.

I enjoyed reading the reports from those who attended the scrimmage. What did you notice as far as:

1. Blocking out
2. Ability to rebound, make a quick outlet pass and go
3. Offensive boards
4. Pressure man to man defense

I think the success of this team is going to come down to rebounding and defense so I'm curious if anything stood out in those areas.

Typical early season scrimmage with mix and match groupings. Shooting a little off, ragged ball possession, and passes not fully in sync. All that will improve.
Gabbi better in all phases-defense, in control of offense, shooting; she will compete for all conference honors.

Maddie looking more like what several on this board said she could be-length on defense, willing and able to shoot, good passes for assist. I think she is a little out of shape (maybe because of knees), and had to come out a couple of times.

Peyton steady everywhere, shot well.

Kaykay and Vivi are going to be forces inside except against teams that have really tall players. Kaykays experience keeping here ahead, but we are okay with either.

Gioya and Treece had to watch, at least for now.

Derica also pretty steady on defense and passing, shot poorly early, and finished maybe 3 of 4 on 3's.
T'ona solid as backup point, too many turnovers mostly a result of ragged team, but she needs to clean passes up a bit.
After that, I didn't see players that will force playing time yet. Nesia still just a drive for lay-up, no pull up shot on display, and it got her in trouble on offense, but solid on defense. Shaya still shows promise, but doesn't have a strong suit to rely on. EJ not yet ready for this level, but could help defensively, and shows promise-this year??

Penzo looked to me like she occasionally favored her hurt knee, and was not completely in shape and as quick or fast as she could be. She has good instincts, and basketball IQ, and I have hopes she will show her all around skills and get on the court this year in important playing time.

Overall, improvement individually, from several, and games start, we could be a relly good TEAM

Blocking out was an improvement, it showed against the guys, but still need to keep working on it.

I thought the kids did a very good job of getting out and running on outlets. Did not see a lot of face break lay ups, but ball movement was much better.

Maddie, Gabbi, Vivi, and Kaylon did a nice job working the offensive boards. With Maddie's length, it will be an asset for the Sooners defensively and in rebounding.

The defense looked really crisp early on. I thought the gap pressure was outstanding. Maddie, Peyton, Gabbi, Derica, and T'ona were solid in fundamental pressure in the gaps. The kids have really wonderful potential to be good this year. We need Gioya to heal up, her quickness will be valuable.

What in the world are you talking about? KK was 3 of 4 on field goals. that is 75%!! Shooting bricks??

Reports are fine. But we need those attending to be factual. You may like VV better. That is OK. But please don't just make up things to report.

It would be like someone saying something like:

Gabbi looked great. I especially like the skill at dunking she has developed. Wow!! Those first two behind the back stuffs were impressive. But after she had jammed her shoulder into the rim, then went up and got her foot caught in the net, Sherri was really upset. It was obvious she told her "No more dunking". I doubt you see her dunk anymore this year.

Ollie, technically I would have to say yes. You had Gabbi, Peyton, and Derica at the 1-2-3, so Maddie would be the four off the wing. She was a hand full when she went inside, because of her length. What really impressed me is no one could stop her on the drive from the wing. Both teams played 4 out 1 in sets through the scrimmage.

You apparently only looked at the stats at the top.

When you have a wide open 4 foot shots and you throw it over the rim you are throwing bricks. And let me make this perfectly clear to you, I don't care who Sherri starts, I am perfectly happy with Kaylon and Vivi. This was one srimmage, and Kaylon still has problems finishing at the rim. Your example is way out of line. I don't make things up on this board.

Thanks Norm, yeah she was 4-8 from the field, her four misses were horrible. But hell what do I know I just make this crap up!!!!

Good info! I hope that we can pick up more easy fastbreak points off of defensive rebounding this year. Last year the vast majority of our fastbreak points came off steals. We need to take advantage of our depth and ability to run.
