Houston looking good.

Good to see this Houston thread brought my old friend SKSooner out of hiding. How have you been, SK?

Kelvin is as solid as they come in coaching defense and getting a maximum effort from his players. I’ve got to admit that I would like to see more of that from this OU team.

But, like you and Coolm, I moved on when KS took the job at Indiana. I’m glad he’s found a home in Houston and he’s doing well! I’ll be pulling for U of H in the dance unless they play OU.

I’ve been doing very well! I have an 18 month old who keeps me pretty busy these days. I still read the board but can’t take some of the negativity. It sucks the life out of you...

It’s been a hard past couple of years on the basketball side. I adore Lon and Sherri and hate it when their teams lose. I believe passionately in both and really want to see both teams play in March. I think they both represent everything that is right in college sports.

I would welcome Sampson back with open arms. Has always been best coach in America.

What I wouldn't give to have some of the toughness and defensive engagement provided by a Sampson team....sigh.

Kelvin made too many phone calls. I'm not gonna crucify him for it.

I will say this much -- Houston is the better coached team.

Sampson is a terrific coach on the defensive end of the floor. No doubt about it.

I would welcome him back, and think he would do really well here, but if the chances of that happening aren't 0%, it's as close to that as it can be. The optics just wouldn't be good. The man can coach basketball ball. He turned UH around pretty quickly.

"Houston looking good" maybe now, but looked pretty bad in the early going.

First of all Sampson got this team in trouble with the NCAA & then went on to Indiana & didn't learn from his mistake.Sampson's team played tough defense but the style of play was at times boring basketball(many on this board thought so also) wanting that style of basketball back is crazy. You need a mix of Kruger & Sampson style of ball & that would be perfect.

I have never liked the way that the Sampson deal went down. When I think of all of the outrage over some phone calls as though it were a moral crime of historic consequences in the midst of the ignorance of sexual crimes at Penn State, Baylor, and Michigan State that involved actual felonies, the purchasing of homes at USC, and the phony academic courses at North Carolina, I tend to wonder what kind of mental evaluation processes the NCAA and its minions have. I have just never bought into the fact that telephone calls were quite as important as murder, rape, sexual assault, or academic fraud. I wonder how we even considered it such an abomination. What were we thinking?

I guess maybe someone will have a rational explanation that I can accept some day. Until then, I'll like Kruger. I'll love Kelvin as a coach, and I'll probably always wonder if his friends let him down for the wrong reasons.

I agree with you about the "seriousness" of allegation against Kelvin. I too found them rather miniscule comparatively. But Kelvin followed it up with bad activities and contempt that I couldnt condone. That meant to me at least that I couldnt trust him to do the right thing.

I'd love for him to still be here coaching the way he coached. But he spoiled it for everyone by not being transparent and not toeing the line when called down.

I am glad he eventually landed back on his feet. But I wasn't the only one who thought him needing to prove himself trustworthy again.

Yeah, and the 8-10 minute scoring droughts every game and the offensive impotence. Also, the awful tourney record and always being too short on talent. He had some good teams but always seemed to be 2-3 players short of contending. I do appreciate his record against texas teams tho, he owned them.

Weird, seeing scoring droughts with this years team, but they’re ending up in losses. Unlike in the KS era. I’ll take defense all day long, as long as it ends up with Ws.

They looked pretty bad early with a 20-5 record!! I’d rather looked bad early, than peak in December and end up misssing the tournament with a player of the year candidate!
