how many

How many wins do you guys feel we need to lock a spot in the NCAA field?

With our schedule, 8-10 in the big 12 is a lock, albeit an ugly seed.

If we get to 9-9, we are in the 7/8 seed range. Better than that, and we'll have a chance to jump up into the 4, 5, or 6 range depending on who we beat and when. Our schedule is just that good.

you do realize 9-9 gets us to 18-12, that's not an 8/9 seed im sorry...

8-10 in conference is 17-13 overall. Lose your first game in the big 12 tourney and you finish 17-14. That's got NIT written all over it.

They need minimum of 18 total wins but even that's not a "lock." I think 19 is pretty safe. 20 is a lock.

I agree with this... 18-12, especially since that record is probably going to come with some ugly losses including a Tech or a TCU, is not going to get you the 8/9.

18 wins probably gets OU a 10-12 seed. And honestly I'd take that over an 8 vs 9 match-up every time. Much better chance to beat a #6 seed and then a 3 seed than winning the 8/9 game and then beating a #1 seed in round 2. It's really hard to make the sweet 16 as an 8 or 9.

In other words, either win exactly 18 games or win 21+. I think 19 or 20 wins probably gets OU the dreaded 8/9.

Not sure where you are getting your info, but it's not that easy. Can't say "such and such # of wins gets us this seed."

Proof? Here are the win totals for last year's 8/9 seeds.

23, 25, 28, 21, 23, 24, 24, 20

So everything from 20 wins to 28 wins, depending on a variety of factors.

You actually can, when you factor in your conference, SOS, non-conference wins etc. which is exactly what the committee does.

Obviously where/who you beat and lose to matters. 20 wins in the Big 12 means more than in most conferences. But just look at where last year's Big 12 teams were seeded. Texas was a 7 but with 23 wins, KSU was a 9 with 20 wins, and OSU was a 9 with 21 wins (although 8-10 in conf).

Baylor was an interesting case last year. They went 21-10 (9-9) but they won 3 games in the Big 12 tourney and lost to Iowa St in the finals finishing 24-11. They got a 6 seed. Without that run they would have likely joined OSU/KSU in another 8/9 game.

You think a 19-12 (10-8) OU team that goes one and done in KC is getting better than an 8 seed? That record out of the Big 12 almost guarantees an 8/9 matchup. Look no further than OSU and K state last year.

Honestly right now after watching this team I would be very happy with winning a game in the Big 12 tourney and in the Big Dance winning one. Something we haven't done in 5 years.
