I don't know what to think anymore on this program

If they are that worried why not try a box and 1 with cade locking rotnei down

That's about the only team a box and 1 would work against. To me, they haven't been absolutely horrible defensively. The freshman have done freshman things like not closing out on shooters, not rotating over for help d, etc. Their biggest liability is ability.

Thats all i was talking about was just last night, nit using it going forward. I was working while watching the game so i didnt get to talk about it last night

That's definitely another option when facing a shooter like Clarke. But to stubbornly stick to a man to man when an opponent's players are driving the lane at will is not an option.

If Capel doesn't limit the time this team spends in a man defense and hide our weak defenders with a match up zone, or switch defenses frequently to (hopefully) confuse our opponents, we can expect more of the same, and it will only get worse in conference play.

Also, we have absolutely NO inside presence, zero, nada, zilch. Other teams are able to get to the rim at will and finish. It's very frustrating to watch.

If you lose three McDAA types after one year in the program together you kinda do. Look at UNC last season. However, after looking at this thread, I see for the first time in a while some thoughtful critiquing of where the program is at and the rationale behind it, specifically as it pertains to Capel.

I have no idea why he is coaching in-game the way he is, and a big part of our problem is getting behind in the first half, but it seems pretty obvious to me who our best players are (in no particular order):

Cade Davis
Pledger
Fitz
Newell
Clark

The problem is that three of these guys essentially play the same position and Fitz alone isn't going to get it done on the boards. That said, I'd start these five every game and try to get them as much time out there as possible before making substitutions. Oh, and my other brilliant idea that no coach has ever listened to me on is when conference play starts, never EVER start the bigs you want to get the most minutes (I hate that about our conference officiating).

the only problem with those five is that 3 of them cant play or chooses not to play any defense. and Newell.. to be a point guard, i have never seen a point with such a weak crossover. heck it almost like he has no clue the guy will still if from him

SoonerSam great post! Others had some very good, honest posts as well.
It's going to be a long season and we can only hope things work out for the best. Like Ada, I've been a big Capel supporter, but have serious questions now. My gut tells me it's just not going to get better.
