... Congrats to Kansas, as they beat Texas yesterday in football in overtime.

  • Kansas beat Texas for the first time since 1938. FDR was president. Bill Snider had not yet been born.
  • KU had lost 13 games in a row to Texas.
  • Kansas’ last win against an FBS team was Nov. 8, 2014, against Iowa State.
  • KU's conference losing streak was 19 games.
  • KU's losing streak vs. FBS teams was 23 games.

Agreed. I actually felt sorry for Charlie Strong. I'm sure that sealed his fate if it weren't already decided.

Great win for KU. I have to admit when they interviewed the KU coach after the game and he got emotional and teared up, it gave me a lump in my throat.

I was really excited for those Kansas kids. Those guys sure deserved a win.

Much congratulation to Kansas! The only thing bad about it is that texass will now get another coach and, even though they're texass they might finally make a good choice.

Most hilarious possibility: (and by possibility I mean something around 0% chance)...

Paul Johnson from Georgia Tech to Texas. Texas implements the spread option and wins the Big 12 next year with Jerrod Heard running the spread option and two NFL running backs lighting up a Big 12 conference that can't defend this offense.

ACC coach of the year 3 times, gone to a few BCS bowls (won the 2014 Orange Bowl) at an average-at-best program in the ACC.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Last time Paul Johnson (at Georgia Tech) ran into the Kansas Jayhawks, they won 66-24... They rushed for 604 yards (yes, 604 yards) and had 768 total yards of offense running the spread option.

  • Johnson's teams have ranked in the top eight nationally in rushing offense each of his eight seasons, including a school-record 342.1 yards-per-game average in 2014, which led all FBS teams that season.
  • Led the ACC in rushing 8 straight years
  • Since 2008, Georgia Tech has rushed for more yards than any team in college football

2017 Horns - Running Spread Option

QB: Jerrod Heard (6'3'' 200 - can throw well enough, runs like a deer)
RB: D'Onta Foreman- Future NFL Player
RB: Chris Warren - Future NFL Player
RB: Kyle Porter - US Army All-American Selection
OL: Connor Williams - Future NFL Player
Return 4/5 starters on the offensive line
WR: Return 6/7 wide receivers

I'm in total agreement. Strong is a good man with solid values. And I think he is good football coach....but that was a bad fit from the start. However, he cleaned up that cesspool of a program and got them going in the right direction with recruiting. The next coach is going to reap some of the harvest that Strong has sown. I expect him to be successful at his next landing spot.

Rumors around that he will get hired by Cincy pretty quickly...

I think he is a good guy and a good coach as well...

Being the head coach at Texas usually inspires automatic hatred in my book, but I'm like the rest of you in that I like Coach Strong and actually pity him a little. His guys are often in position on D, they just find new and dumbfounding ways to screw up.

But he's a rich man who is about to get even richer. He'll either be a head coach at a smaller school or a coordinator at a major one, and that's saying nothing of the five or six million he'll clear after taxes from the eventual buyout.

I wish him luck unless he faces us.

We must not forget the one salvation for Sooner fans is the political climate at Texas is such that the school that located in the state that produces the most NFL players, has the best facilities and generates the most revenue has had only truly 3 successful coaches with Dana Bible in the late 30's to early 60's (3 conference and zero MNC), Darrell Royal in late 50's to mid 70's (10 conference and 2 AP MNC) and Mack Brown in late 90's to early teens (3 conference and 1 AP MNC) in their history. And in reality only Royal truly performed at at great level for an extended period of time.

What holds Texas back is the circumstances in Austin is not conducive for providing an environment that allow a top coach to perform at is optimum level. Too many power brokers with unrealistic expectations wanting to have a hand in running the program. The football coach is not allowed to just coach football because too many people are meddling in what is his job. Doubtful that will ever change. At least I hope it never changes.

While most coaches would jump at the chance to coach there are other coaches in the know that would not touch the climate in Austin with a ten foot pole regardless of the money and opportunity as they want to be happy where they work. Is it possible that Tom Herman, Dabo Sweeny and Jimbo Fisher fall into that class?

Agree, but we've shown a tendency to lose to them half the time no matter how bad their coaching is or how much we are favored. Would that be a reflection of complacency on our part?

Last time Kansas beat Texas, Hitler hadn't yet invaded Poland.
