I Hope Football Officiating Doesn't Spill into Basketball

The consensus seems to be that Riley didn't want OU to join the SEC. If so, I wonder whether he didn't want the heightened competition or he objected (as do I) to OU jumping headlong into that cesspool.

If the former, I've lost all respect for him. If the latter, I respect his stance but abhor his horrific handling of the situation. He's slapping in the face every OU fan, every OU player (and recruit) and Bob Stoops.

Dean Blevins said he got a call saying Riley would be 3-4 hours late for the replay show today, but that in the end Riley was just a no-show. That's never happened before, Blevins said.

Seventy-plus years with no OU head coach leaving for another program (and just one head coach leaving for the NFL). That's an impressive run, and Riley just spit on it.

Was just wondering how long it had been. Longer than I even imagined. Thx for the info.

Also no worries that Joe C will now find us a coach who believes in all three phases of football. Not just offense.

I had mixed emotions about him leaving but this (skipping his duty to a show with his name) puts me in the “good riddance” category. I realize coaches want to bolt quickly but this (to me) shows a lack of integrity and character.

There were some big missed calls late, but it's BS to think it was intentional. OU was on the receiving end of some big calls early. I think the refs got those right, but if the screw job is in, they don't wait until the last couple of drives of the game to start making them.

they didn't wait until the last couple of drives

The early fumble by osu that was never reviewed
The obviously missed facemask
The no called PI in teh endzone on haselwood

But hey...they missed an offsides on us

Four potential game changing calls that went against us:
  • Forced fumble by Woodi Washington in the first half that was blown dead
  • The non-call PI on West (it may have been Darby) in the end zone in the first half.
  • Picking up the flag on the unsportsmanlike call when Brooks was tackled late.
  • Non PI call on Hazelwood on the last drive.

All of the above were killers in a close game that could have changed the outcome. Having said that, CW absolutely freezes up against a zone, especially when the defense drops 8. And he refuses to throw to his safety valve out in the flat. Lincoln could resolve some of this issue with play-calling, however CW has to get better at seeing the field and decision-making. In the end, I thought OU outplayed OSU for large stretches of the game. But the difference ended up being the kickoff return for a TD.....absolutely inexcusable.

Add in the no call on a late hit out of bounds on caleb on his long run. The defender didn't even make contact until he was out

I'm pretty disgusted with the guy, not that he left, but with how he left. Obviously this has been in the works for a while and with the inconsistency that the offense displayed most of the year, I have a hard time believing that LR wasn't somewhat distracted this season. Also, I think he foresaw his teams, as currently constructed, getting their a$$es kicked in the SEC. Unfortunately, one of the byproducts of him leaving now is we are hemorrhaging recruiting commitments.....especially in the early signing period. I do have faith in Joe C. that he will land the right guy for us moving forward to compete in a better conference.

I would take Fickell, Mark Stoops, or Dave Aranda and be very satisfied.

This program has always hired assistants. I'm afraid the "hair on fire" aspect of this deal is going to force us into a bad fit.

Could be wrong. Been wrong before. I'm in the Venables camp.

A LOT of smoke for BV right now.

If he can get a competent OC, this would be a great hire
