Does it have to be Johnny Jones or Terry Evans?

Johnny Jones
-6 straight 20 win seasons
-School records in wins in a season
-2 sun belt championships
-2 NCAA tournament appearances
-An hour down the road in Denton, TX
-Teams led the nation in free throws made 2 years in a row

Terry Evans
"We would win, first of all," Evans said. "I've won everywhere I've been. I would bring an identity, same as I've had at all of my programs - an up-tempo, high-scoring team that also plays great defense and rebounds the basketball.

"I haven't really seen an identity regarding OU basketball since coach (Kelvin) Sampson left. His identity was defense and toughness. Coach Tubbs' was 'Billy Ball.' Oklahoma needs an identity, needs some excitement."

"I have no recruiting budget here, yet for the last three years we've been among the best teams in the state," he said. "Give me an unlimited recruiting budget, I'll bring in great players and do a lot of the same things that we did with Kelvin when we went to the Final Four.

"I have former teammates in almost every city in Texas. I have a great relationship with high school coaches all over this state. Look at all of the Oklahoma kids here at UCO (14 of the 15 Bronchos on this year's roster are natives).

"A lot of great Oklahoma players lately have gone to Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky or different schools. I feel they should have been here."

I'm sorry but if this is who we have to turn to then OU basketball may in fact actually be "dead". At least for awhile.

It will be neither. The next coach will be someone no one thought of, just like last time.

OU has been to Denton to speak with him... why wouldnt they? Having 6 straight 20 win seasons is something Capel has never done, and Jones did it at one of the worst basketball programs in the history of college athletics.

As for Evans... he would win. He would bring excitement. Iowa State brought in their favorite son with no coaching experience, but he and Bobby Lutz are gonna put the most improved team in the league (maybe country) on the floor next season.

I have total faith in these two if its not Buzz.

I hope you're right, but you have a lot more faith than I do. I just think it speaks volumes that Tech is hiring Gillespie and Missouri may get Painter yet we are forced to hire a guy from North Texas or a guy from UCO.

Would be shocked if Painter went to Mizzou. They are targeting him, but is there any real speculation from Painter's end he would go?

Tech knew who they wanted and weren't going to wait...TT and Gillespie are a perfect fit for each other.

Terry, Terry, Terry!!! Total faith he would do a great job, plus would never have to worry about him leaving when he brings us back!!!!

Sittler says sources at Missouri believe they have a "strong chance" to get Painter. Take that for what it's worth

Good looking out.

Think Painter stays 1.) because he's an alum and 2.) Purdue will pony up the cash.

We should look at Tad Boyle first. Those guys are basically types we get after everyone turns us down. Have you really looked at Johnny Jones' record? We fired a guy for doing that in a major conference.

Why Tad Boyle? Who has recruited to deserve such praise?

His first year in the conference he had a sure-fire NBA 1st rounder and fringe second rounder (and returning all conference player) starting in his backcourt.

Not saying Boyle is a bad coach, but he has done next to nothing to warrant consideration when looking at CU. Now, if you want to throw in his credentials at Northern Colorado, fine, but I would still take Jones because of the recruiting ties.

If Buzz is indeed off the table. You got to hit Rose & Boyle.

Do not want Jones,Marshall or Evans

What about his road record? Can he win on the road?

Beat Kansas State on the road. He would play a style that would put butts in the seats more than most of the other choices. I think Johnny Jones would be the death nail of the program. He brings no interest in. He hasn't really won at North Texas all that much. Why is he getting any hype for the job at all?

That's only one game. What does his road record look like?

I initially really liked Buzz Williams and still do to a point. However, something about him has rubbed me the wrong way the last week and it probably has something to do with his love affair with the horns. I was born in Austin and spent my first 11 years there. My father is a Texas Alum and most of my family still live there. I love the city but HATED all the longhorn fans. My dad wore sooner shirts to class and around town and we constantly listened to j...offs rip on my pops about it. I understand the same would happen in Norman. Anyway, its a biases rooted in childhood that goes beyond just being a sooner fan. Terry Evans becomes attractive for me for the obvious reasons although I understand some of the concern. I agree that J Jones is pretty cool and would be my pick ahead of Buzz at this point. Whomever gets the job I will get behind but Evans, Jones, Marshall, and Boyle are my favorites of the names currently thrown around. Who knows though. Unless its Buzz I think a good portion of our sooner nation are going to be initially underwhelmed with the hire.

All this tells me is that I am glad most of you aren't aiding in the decision.

Ever thought about how the guy actually COACHES?

Say what you want about Tad Boyle, but it's been really obvious from watching his team this year that those boys are prepared and well-coached.

Watch them in their stance defensively and their communication. On offense their movement w/o the ball is constant, their cuts are crisp, and they took good shots.

Whatever else you dislike about him aside the guy can certainly COACH...and that's more than I know about most of these others.

of course my pick is still SHaka Smart.

The last thing OU basketball needs is a male version of SC.
