If not Capel, who?

Disagree completely with the premise that you need to be able to name his replacement to question his future as a coach. Either he can get the job done or he can't. If he can't, you move on to someone else.

I think Billy Gillispie fits the mold. He has won in the Big 12 at a Football school (which a&M is) and then Won at Kentucky, just not at their level. He went to the post season one out of two years at UTEP, Every year at a&m, and has a winning record for his career He could be looking for redemption at a historically big time bball program (OU being top 20 all time). Its a win-win. He can rebuild his image and OUr program at the same time

Billy Gillispie...is that a joke?
First you need to get your facts straight. In 2 years he only made it w/ Kentucky to 1 ncaa tournament and He got lucky b/c he shouldn't have made it either time since in his first year he only went 18 - 12...where he lost to Gardner Webb, Houston, UAB, and San Diego during the nonconference to only look good against the SEC which was horrible that year and he lost to Georgia in the first round of the SEC tournament and the first round of the ncaa tournament.

Winning at Kentucky just not at their level...They got rid of a guy who not only won a national championship but took them to the ncaa tournament every year he was there for a guy that barely made it in once. He was left with Jodie Meeks and he brought in Patterson, liggins and miller and couldn't get it done.

Why is his name brought up. I don't get it. b/c he won at aTm. Turgeon is winning there.

This board may not know it but Capel at VCU and Blaine Taylor at ODU had a pretty intense rivalry playing twice a year and in the conference tourney often. Capel hates ODU due to how he feels they treated his father by getting rid of him. I gotta say, for OU to fire Capel and hire Taylor would be adding insult to injury. Not that this should sway our action at all, just saying.

All the more reason to do it. Capel has destroyed what was a top 20 program and we owe him nothing.

I've seen several posters state recently that they believe Capel's time is running, or has run out. I'm not completely sold on that yet, but, I am certainly rapidly approaching that conclusion.

So, if we do pull the plug on the Capel era, who replaces him? You have to have an excellent response to that question or it's completely ridiculous to even consider making a change. Simply firing Capel does nothing, we have to repalce him with someone who is clearly a better option.

Give me some realistic names.

Stupid argument. Here are the facts. I can make this easy for you. I base my opinion on wins and losses. Lost 12 out of the last 14 last year. 5 losses in a row this year. 37 double digit losses under Capel. Will take the team to post season 2 times out of 5. 3 of the worst seasons in 60 years.

Finding a coach is Joe C's job.

Capel didn't hire himself. Who's to say Joe C gets it right this time? He has a good track record so I bet he would, but, just firing Capel isn't going to fix a thing unless we find someone better.

Learn how to read, I said post season, not NCAA, he also made the NIT. That is more than capel will do this year or did last year and his first year. Capel has only won with Blake Girffin. He gets credit for recruiting and signing him, but he has not been able to win without the best or second best player in OU history (Depending on if you put him above Tis).

Butter is right... those are the numbers.

So if I list someone on a message board, Joe C will read it and hire him. Nice to know.

Wooooow. Chill, bro. I get it. You want Capel gone and don't care who the next coach is. That's fine. I'm just attempting to discuss who the next coach might be. Discussing various OU hoops topics, that's what we do here.

1.) Gregg Marshall - threw his name out before we hired Capel, has done a solid job at Winthrop and Wichita State.

2.) Billy Gillespie - he's a good coach, don't understand the hate. Has won at a varitey of level. Loves to party.

Go for the big dog. Get Larry Eustachy. :woot

Yep here's our next coach.

If Tubby Smith comes to coach here, within a couple years our program will be at least where it was with Kelvin in the late 90s. Then everyone will realize how terrible Capel truly was.

Gillespie is more of a hard alcohol guy and is actually a better coach. Think you get the best of both worlds. You want support for OU basketball on campus, guarantee you'll get it if you roll into frat parties late night and hit the shot block. Respect.
