I'm Curious

Geno...dont think he will be able to recruit early in his tenure here, will be hard to earn the respect of his players, even though he can be a big time a-hole and intimidating...maybe he could get that dude from baylors womens team to transfer here...

All other candidates i would trust Joe on...and to be honest, even if we did get Geno i would support that and hopefully he could be ultra succesful...

1. BCG: Known commodity with solid ties to Texas; however, had personal issues that may disqualify him from contention for the OU job. UK is a tough place to coach, huge expectations and boosters that can get out of control. Ultimately, I think that you get an Eddie Sutton'esque type hire, a guy that is a good coach and a solid recruiter that can keep a program relevant and contend once every 2-3 years.

2. Buzz: Basically a younger BCG that sounds like he wants to get back to this part of the country. His teams have gotten worse during his tenure, but the Big East is a heck of a tough conference in hoops. Would like to think that his style of play is similar to BCG but with a little more offense. After thirty years of paying attention, winning sells tickets, offense fills up the seats. Not a ton of downside here IMHO.

3. Josh Pastner: OU is instantly in on some of the top talent in the country both regionally and nationally, and would probably land quite few of them. There is talk of issues at Memphis, but honestly I think that whole program has problems, not Pastner. Cons are that he is young and inexperienced and doesn't appear to be a defensive minded coach. Moreover, just like Sampson, every time a job comes open, his name will come up. Not sold on Memphis being a better program though it is debatable whether he would make a lateral move to a "football" school.

4. Terry Evans: Longshot with no D-1 experience and I have no idea how well he could recruit. His style of play is similar to Tubbs and we all know that attracted fans. My hope with Terry would be is that he draw a 300 mile circle around Norman, Oklahoma and recruit the hell out of that area and that he'd bring in a guy with solid Texas connections. He would bring passion to the program, and create a nice tie in with the past.

5. Stotts: NBA guy, just don't know enough about him to form an opinion.

6. Geno: Would absolutely get attention, but sounds like he already turned us down once.

I'm sure it'll end up being a guy that nobody has any clue about that we get on the cheap.

This program has never been built on recruiting Texas, ever. I don't get the, "we have to get someone who can recruit Texas" sentiment.

I dont necessarily agree with the Texas thing, but i do think we have to recruit the Juco ranks well...All of our best teams had a solid Juco base mixed in with our 4 yr guys...

I'm not sure the level of JUCO talent is as high as it used to be with prep schools being so prevalent. I agree with you though, OU should be bringing in JUCO talent, just feels right!

U are definitely right, the talent isnt quite what it was 10 yrs ago...but there are still some good players out there...

I would say bringing in 1 or 2 a year depending on needs could be very beneficial...these guys have some game experience against college level players and are more mature (physically at least)...always good to sprinkle in a few of them with your core guys...

I'm with you too, just feels right!

I would be happy with BCg or pastner.

Bcg is probably the best hire for the first season or 2.

Hear me out on Pastner. His teams will be high flying, athletic, NBA caliber players. His teams will be fun to watch. When the Sooners are fun to watch and they are winning lnc rocks like any other arena in the country, I think if we want to be a basketball powerhouse we need a uber talented and fun product. Pastner can bring that and ig the lnc is full we can pay him what is needed to keep him.

I hope it's either BCG or Pastner just so we will finally have a coach you like. :)

Honestly I don't really dislike any of the choices we can get except maybe the ODU coach for a couple reasons. First he looks a lot like Stalin. I just don't want to look at a coach at OU and think of a guy that's killed 50 million people. More importantly we just got a coach from that level and it didn't really work out. I would like to see a major conference experienced type guy coming in. I'm against Jones from UNT for the same reason although he does have major college assistant experience.

:ez-laugh: I think we should hire him (the Stalin look-alike). Then turn him loose on this message board.

Buzz - The more control of the program he gets, the worse the team is playing.
BCG - A circus and not a good one
Evans - OU guy obviously, but needs to be an assistant first
Stotts - NBA assistant doesn't necessarily translate to good college coach
Fran - haha
Pastner - seems too Calipari(ish)

Mack - He's a winner...has never had a losing season as a player or as a coach
Kruger - Has coached 4 BCS-level schools and has gotten each school past the first round
Grant - Has proven it at VCU and is now doing it at Bama....coached under Donovan
Rose - has coached at BYU for 6 years....has had 6 20 win seasons. Not easy at BYU.

This is a very good breakdown IMO. I agree on nearly all accounts. Nice to see somebody with a clue on a board that is constantly being trashed up with posts entitled "Rick Pitino", Phil Jackson, or Bruce Pearl". Like these guys are leaving their jobs to coach OU basketball. Jebus.
