Insane?

I don't know that I am.
But, I am smarter than this. Road win counts 1.4. Home win counts 0.6. Road loss counts 0.6 losses. Home loss counts 1.4 losses.

A 5-5 record on the road would be equivalent to 7-3
A 5-5 record at home would be equivalent to 3-7.

You honestly believe a team will have the same record when games are at home vs. when they are on the road?

You need to compare the 5-5 road record with 10-0 or 9-1 at home.

Teams do better at home than on the road. That is one of the main reasons MOST teams play most non-conference games at home.

I once did a study of Big 12 head to head mens games. The point differential between home and away averaged 14 points. I suspect the reasons are familiarity with the court and baskets and the unavoidable facts that some officials are infleunced by the home crowds particularly in placed like Ames where the crowd boos every decision that goes against their team no matter how obviously right the call is. Also players do better with a supportive crowd than a hostile one.

Clearly you are subjecting yourself to a few more losses if you play a lot of away games in the early season but may help you win a few more in February and March.
