Did you see this comment by Calipari (Kentucky Men's coach)?

I thought it was a perfect description of what happens to our players from time to time.

"When the ball comes to you, you either shoot it, drive it right away, pass it to the post, but don't hold it. Just don't hold the ball," Calipari said. "That means you've just got to get rid of it. That's what we did yesterday to get better. Now, they'll go in the game and they're going to revert, and somebody's going to get it and he's going to back up, the defense sinks in and you get absolutely nothing. Then you shoot a step-back jumper with your toes up, fade-away and say, 'I almost made it. I can make that shot.' Yeah, one out of six, but we can't win.' Just a young group."

I totally agree. We play better when we move the ball quickly or react quickly as in drive, shoot, etc. We get into trouble when holding and looking.

I agree with the OP but unfortunately we are not a young team. We are a seasoned senior team that is too inconsistent. We like to migrate from looking great to looking terrible. What we need is to be consistently good.

I think that's the change we made in our offense this year. Before, we've always treated the motion offense like the triple option (read the defense and drive, pass, or shoot). Now I think we have some priorities that cut down the decision time. The first option seems to be to drive, unless the ball is kicked out from inside, then it's shoot. We seem to be spending a lot less time standing and looking, or just dribbling around the perimeter.

One should pass it immediately or shoot it immediately. And you should know who you're going to pass it to before you even catch the ball. The oldest play in basketball is to pass it, run to the basket, catch it and make a layup. I don't know why we don't do that more often. It always seems to work.
