I was almost shocked to see that John Helsley ripped their fan base for not showing up last Friday for Senior Night. I think that might be a first for a DOK writer to tweak the self-righteous Poke fan base. They'd never think twice about ripping our fan base for anything.

Anyway, the "interesting" part of the discussion for me, at least, was seeing some Aggy say something along the lines of "I never thought I'd see the day when our fan base acts like the OU football fans...." I guess that means they think our "nation" is that much of a group of front-runners like they're being themselves, during an off-season at Upper-GI. We've already heard many times from them about how most of us "didn't even go to school there," etc., and aren't nearly as loyal as they are to whatever team is representing them on the field/court.

Even when their game has nothing to do with OU, the Poke Nation can usually find a way to bring OU into a discussion about it. I think the guy who posted that was shocked that their "loyal to a fault" fan base has been more than a little bit fickle. That doesn't fit their self-image at all, but at least it was a cold slap of reality in this basketball season of theirs.

So true! And you won't find a fan base anywhere with a bigger inferiority complex than in Stoolwater! Their fan base has always been fickle, they are just too dumb to know!

OSU is about to lose 20 games. Last time OU lost 20 games in a season was never. OSU last lost 20 games in 86-87

They might be the most overrated basketball fan base in the conference. Loyal and true are really only words in a song. They think they're so special. I hear about it all the time from family. It gets really old.

Deep down, they wish they were a fan base as strong as the OU football fan base. But they'd never admit it.

I'm almost getting to where I feel sorry for Travis Ford. He's becoming a victim of their over-inflated sense of "basketball tradition." Even when St. Eddie was there (and he even got there under dubious circumstances after his Kentucky experience), they still trailed OU by roughly 32 games.

What's always irritated me is the misguided belief that they have so much more basketball tradition and success than we do when, if anything, the reverse is true.

I think what is going to be difficult for them to understand and accept is that it takes an extraordinary basketball coach to win at the level Iba/Sutton did in Stillwater. It is NOT the program they think it is and is and has always been a very difficult basketball job. They won't be able to just go hire anyone to get things back to the way they were and, honestly, I don't know that they're able or willing to pay the kind of money it will take to get that kind of coach there.

This has been a myth perpetuated by their fans and local media for decades. We've been by far the better program since the mid-60's.

Great post, and I agree with (almost) everything you stated. Only thing that needed to be changed? The accurate term would be "Lower-GI." :ez-laugh:

Thus, what's the "matter" in Stoolwater? :ez-roll:

I don't socialize with anyone from OSU, so I don't have to listen to their drivel.

Exactly. Can't really blame them for wanting something other than wrestling and horse judging to hang their hats on though lol.

I don't mind that their fans believe it -- they're a delusional bunch, anyway. But the local media puffing them up year after year gets old.

Agreed. I was thinking "Upper GI" because OSU makes me sick to my stomach.

And of course, any Aggy claims to moral superiority as a fan base just makes me need the Rolaids that much quicker. That's what caught my eye the other night.
