Interesting future Tyler Neal

I think he's a little smoother than Cade. He doesn't have Cade's aggression, even as a freshman, but Neal is taller and a better pure shooter. They both have a great feel for the game.

Exactly. He seems more athletic than Davis and I like how he gets up and down the floor. He was a pleasant surprise last night for me and I think he has the potential to be a solid contributor.

That's why recruiting is not a science. If you'd look at him vs. Ray Willis coming out of high school, you'd say, "I'll take the 30pt a game guy out of one of the top high schools in the nation." But it's clear that Tyler is a better player.

Here's what Capel had to say about Tyler after last night's game. Pretty high praise for a freshman playing in only his third game:

"Our players this summer were telling me he could be as good as anyone on our team in the long run," said coach Jeff Capel. "It's just a matter of time before he figures it all out...

"He's athletic. He can step out and shoot it. The thing for him is, when does it all come together and the light comes on? He needs to get a little bit tougher. ... But he's going to be good for us."

I see him as being better than Cade before he is done.. He is a better shooter, a better athlete, longer, and taller.

Capel's comments are right on and fit to a T. He has skills and can step out and shoot it. He needs to be a lot tougher. We will know more next year. As I have said on here several times, I wanted OU to sign him for the reasons just mentioned, but it isn't clear how good he will be. He does have a long way to go, but I like his potential.

He could end up being a productive player. I really wasnt counting on him, but if he gets a lot better by next year we will have a chance to be pretty good.

Agree with the toughness part, cowboysooner. Tyler showed a little bit more of that last night, but he still has a long way to go.

Maybe if he would cut some of those curls off and go with an Army Drill Sergent look. Ya think that might help? :D

it's nice to see excitement and optimism

I was impressed with Neal last night. He has some good potential. Also, the stories about him being a good kid are true. I know a couple of folks who think the world of him. We shouldn't have to worry about him doing something dumb off the court.

I loved Neal last night!! He was just what I hoped he would be. He will at the very least be a really solid role player, and I really think could turn into more than that. He looks like the type of kid that really turns into a player at a place like Butler or Gonzaga. Nothing wrong with having a couple of players like that in the program. If you put them alongside some of the studs we occassionally get, you have a great team. Reminded me a little of a young Ryan Minor, btw.

Not ready...Cade was further along as a freshman...

But he will continue to gain confidence in practice and maybe earn a minute or two here in spot situations this year...

I think he will be better than Cade. That is if he works as hard as Cade.

Cade's shot is his biggest problem. I don't care how accurate you are the high arching shot is like bouncing one in off the cieling.

He is on one game like last night but is not consistent. I hope he proves me wrong in 10-11.

I think Neal's shot is more fundamental and he seems to have a nice touch. He is also bigger and will put on more pounds and muscle.

I liked how he and Washington contributed last night.

To be fair, Capel said similar things about Gamma Ray in the two years he was here.

Really? I remember the accolades he used to describe Ray's game when he signed with OU, but don't recall many compliments after that. Maybe that's because Gamma Ray was in Capel's doghouse more often than not. :)
