From SoonerSports.com's postgame notes:

• Oklahoma’s 7-1 start is its second best in the last eight seasons (started 12-0 in 2008-09).

Wow! No way I would have thought that to be true. And, we have a really good chance of being 9-1 after the All-College tournament. Hope I didn't jink the team with that observation.

Little deceiving cause strength of schedule has been pretty weak.

Is it that outrageous to suggest that this team is the 2nd best of the last 8 seasons? The last 8 seasons consist of Capels 5 years, this year, and the Terrell Everett/ Taj Gray era at the end of Sampson's tenure. This team is pretty good. I think aside from Blake's sophomore season, we only have 1 NCAA tournament win over that period.

Our strength of schedule has always been pretty weak in the early parts of the season, though...

Maybe not outrageous, but I don't think it will hold up. Like I posted earlier today, at some point, the lack of depth is going to kill these guys.

True, but I think their hustle and team effort will win them some games they should, on paper, lose.

I interpret the quote in the OP's post to mean the 7-1 start is second best, not the team. I'm not ready to put this team on a level with our 2008 and 2009 teams when we finished in the top four of the Big 12 both years. The same is true of our 2005 and 2006 teams, in Sampson's last two years, when OU finished the season in a tie for first in conference, and then followed that with a third place finish the next year.

I'm thrilled with how well this team has performed so far. But I doubt if anyone who has followed OU basketball for the past decade or so is even close to a "second best in the last eight years" label. I know I'm not.

I'm not prepared to rank this team over the past 8 years, let's see how they respond in BIG XII play and then we'll have a better idea. I feel the depth would have been just fine had we still had Newell, but even without him we still have better depth then a lot of teams out there. I feel we are still a bubble team which is a great accomplishment if you ask me. If Lon can keep these boys together next year is going to be fantabulous.

I would say it is wrong to suggest this is the second best team OU has had over the last 8 years. In 2005, OU won 25 games. IN 2007 OU won 23 games and in 2009 OU won 30 games. I really don't think this team can win that many games. I hope I am wrong.

I also think OU had more talent in 2010 than they have this year. (WW, TMG, Tiny, Pledger, Fitzgerald, Crocker, Ryan Wright, Orlando Allen, Cade Davis and Ray Willis should have been a respectable team but they had no coach).
