How the heck was this guy a 2 star rated by ESPN? This kid is one of the most under-appreciated guys in the nation, but it seems I hear everyone (Goodman, Fran, Greenberg) keep saying that. His work ethic is second to none, and deserves every success coming his way. He has become one of my favorite players in the last 10 years

Agree completely. He has gotten dramatically better every year. He WAS a 2 or low 3 star as a PG when he first got here. Playing like a solid 4 star as a SG as a junior. If he progresses further then he will be a 5 star SG as a senior and get drafted in my opinion.

There is much more to a player than the star beside his name. OUr staff understands that very well.

I trusted Kruger-he finds gems. I just think it's funny that ESPN whiffs on a lot of players and misses on guys like Cousins and Trey Burke (who I think was a 3 star I believe)

Actually, I believe the "star system" is quite accurate. I had zero stars behind my name when I was in high school, and I wasn't recruited by anyone.

James was rated higher before he got hurt...

I tried to look up Christian James and Bellaire HS basketball, and I don't think he played in any games before the Christmas break. Bellaire is struggling with a 5-7 record but they play a tough 6A schedule and have playing without their best player.

Because recruiting rankings are meaningless, especially the lower you get.

My Dad and I were talking about Isaiah the other day discussing two years ago and his inability to even get the ball past half court with minimal pressure. From there to where he is now is remarkable. He's my favorite player on the team. He's a little "quirky", taunting the fans at Texas during his intentional foul free throws for example, but he is a heck of a player. Glad he's a Sooner.

Isaiah's work as a gym rat is paying off for him (Buddy, too). He's been the best player on the team this year. His defense is absolutely the best on the team. He's really quick and has length. His shot has obviously improved dramatically over the past couple of years. He can also rebound well for a guard. The negatives are (1) his emotions sometimes get the best of him, and (2) he can play a little too fast and get out of control.... both of those are minor.

His defense and quickness may eventually earn him a spot in the NBA kind of like a Tony Allen..... he's a much better scorer than Allen.

Players like Isaiah Cousins are the reasons why I don't give a flying f about how many stars our recruits have according to Joe Blow the recruiting "expert" or what that absurdly idiotic crystal ball "says". Can't believe people get worked up about that stuff.

I trust our coaching staff 100% to find the right guys with the right attitude and work ethic and then coach them up.

Cousins improvement since his freshman season at OU is nothing short of amazing. I remember a few posters on this board asking why he was given a scholarship his first year. He was recruited to play the point out of high school, or I should say that's the position he wanted to play. When that didn't work out, he moved back to his natural position at the two and the rest is history.

Well, not exactly. Isaiah developed into the player he is now with a little help from our coaches and a lot of hard work. This team is made up of gym rats. By all accounts, he and Buddy are the leaders of the gym rat pack. They're the first on the practice floor every morning and the last to leave.

In other words, the desire and determination to be good is far more important than the number of stars by a player's name.

Stars? He is the brightest Star on this team. I have been saying this since the start of the season. His upside still has not been reached, he will continue to get better. The other night against Texas when he was shooting the intentional free throws and he waved to the crowd, the team got on him and you could see he was embarrassed and knew he screwed up. You could read his lips "I f'ed up"! Really like his game and he should be talked about as an All American contender soon, at least Honorable Mention. The kid is really good, and rebounds like a man on a mission!

Y'all acting like I live Religiously by a recruits rankings... yeesh. It was just an observation that ESPN, once again, fails to see talent and potential.

If Cousins listed height is legit, he's an NBA player.

Cousins is my favorite Sooner, seems like he sets the tone for the team and always gets the guys going... He plays with a chip/edge, I hope he get some Big 12 accolades...
