Isiah Cousins commits to OU!!!

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

Thanks for the article Ada. It's clear reading that he thinks he is a PG.

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

sure like some of the things they rave about him: great ballhandler, gym rat.

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

Everyone agrees that we need guards, CLK goes out and snags three Top 150 types from HS. I bet one of them is good enough to contribute meaningful minutes next season and I'll go out on a limb and say we get a JUCO guard too.

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

His Rivals' profile has him as an OU commit.

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

false.

that ish CRAY
:ez-laugh:

Kruger is upgrading the talent. Gets rid of a Division II player, and brings in a raw 6'4 talent with a high ceiling that good coach's eyed as well.

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

I LOVE the fact that this guy is a gym rat! That's what OU basketball should be all about, not the prima donnas like TMG and WW. I also love the idea of having a 6'4" pg that can learn from Grooms for a year before taking over.

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

Kruger is hauling in a really nice guard class this year. Add in Clark or Woodard and Parker next year and the future is really bright. Now we just need an impact post, not a benchwarmer.

Cousins is a SG, not a PG.

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

No he is a PG. He committed to OU to play PG, that's the position he wants to play.

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

Cousins is a SG, not a PG.

I made the same argument the other day. The kid played some point, and wants to be a point, so we'll see. He may see time at the pg spot as a backup, but from what I've read/seen, he probably shouldn't start there. I think Hornbeak is the better pg option between the two.

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

In one of the articles linked on here, Cousins says he's a pg and wants to play for a coach that will let him play his game. I believe he also averaged 16pts and 8assts per game. He might be a bit of a hybrid like Hornbeak, but it sounds like he wants to play the point. Forgive me if I misread the article! :D

The thing I love is the length and versatility the 3 guards committed bring to the court. Heild sounds like a pure 2 guard, which means OU could have a backcourt of Heild, Hornbeak and Cousins in a couple years. Sounds like a tremendous backcourt with versatility that will be able to run, defend and score. I'm just giddy over this!!!

No offense, but kids don't get to pick their positions. Osby wanted to play the 3. M'Baye has said he can play the wing (but probably won't). We go through this every season, with people trying to put kids where they don't belong. Cousins is a 6'4 kid that less than a year ago, every scouting report I've seen said he needed to improve his handles. And that was being evaluated as a SG, not a PG. As a PG, he needs even better handles. There is a reason there aren't many non-elite pg's of that size. You have to be extremely athletic/gifted to pull that off. Maybe he is, but until I see it on the court at OU, I'm going to consider him a 2/3 that can handle some limited PG minutes.

Besides, he certainly isn't more of a PG then Clark or Woodard, both guys we're hoping to land. And then there is Hornbeak, who I think is a better option at pg.

Great pickup. Let's get some guards in here that can hoop!!!

Re: Isiah cousins commits to ou!!!

From what I saw in one of his videos he has very good handles. Used both hands quite well. Plus, his HS coach was saying that was one of his strengths, and who has seen him more than him? After watching Pledger trying to dribble these last 3 years its a welcome addition. And to remember back to early that season where Capel tried to make Pledger a PG? LOL

I agree with this, but either way it's encouraging that we're going to have more options in our backcourt.

Oh, I agree 100%. This is definitely a good thing.

The kid reminds me a bit of Detrick from a few years ago. Probably slightly better handles then Detrick, but similar bodies and games.

This is what I was thinking. I understand the back and forth banter about position, but "come on man". We should be doing more of this :chestram2:
