They beat us, and they beat OSU by 1.
WVU just tied it up, so Texas will be hanging on for dear life in OT. Probably NIT bound unless they win.

I’m not at all envious of UT because they aren’t that good. I’m not envious of an average team that is sitting on the bubble. I’m envious at basketball blue bloods that have actually won a national title and contend for one most years.
It was a good win today, but don't miss the forest for the trees.
Plus, no one has done less with more than Shaka Smart. Routinely brings in 5 stars, high 4 stars, and burger boys, but routinely finishes in the bottom half of the conference.

If Texas would have played with the effort they played with today for most of the conference season, they would have easily finished in the top half of the conference (with their talent).

Last year they finished 11-22. This year they're 18-13. Year in and year out they have the 2nd most talent to Kansas, yeah that's underachieving. Also today was a do or die game for them @ home for a tourney berth, you really want to give them a ton of credit for playing hard ?
The boards right now are ridiculously overreacting to everything OU and non OU the past month.

Nailed it. Shaka, from a coaching and development standpoint, is one of the most overrated coaches in the country. He recruits well, but literally has done "less with more" his entire tenure at Texas. Living down here, I can attest that a good portion of their fans wanted him gone this season.
Exactly. If we did that with the recruiting classes they get, this board would have fired Shaka last year and would not be "envious" of them. They'd be saying "we should play that way and then some". Texas basketball has been embarrassing for awhile, but because their football program has been worse, their basketball team gets a pass. Rick Barnes was fired for not making it far in the NCAA tournament. Shaka Smart is getting a pass for not making the tournament and finishing outside the top 3 of the big 12 year in and year out while having a top 2 conference recruiting class.
Shaka 1st year at Texas, made the tournament, lost in the 1st round, this while having Myles Turner. Following year finished 4-14 in the Big 12 with Jarrett Allen on the team. Now he's finished 7-10 with Mo Bamba on the team, and is a bubble team.
For reference
2015 class: 18th nationally, 2nd in the Big 12 (Lost first game of NCAA, 4th in conference)
2016 class: 6th nationally, 1st in the Big 12 (finished last in Big 12)
2017 class: 6th nationally, 1st in the Big 12 (finished 7th in Big 12, bubble team for NCAA tournament)
So for a guy who gets top 20 classes, and 2nd in the Big 12, you'd think he'd finish better than 4th, 10th, and 7th in the conference. And yes, if OU did that with that talent, Everyone on this board would call for him to be fired, especially since they want him gone now
OU for reference (where we finished)
2015 class: 51st nationally, 6th in Big 12 (Final Four that year, 3rd in Big 12)
2016 class: 27th nationally, 3rd in the Big 12 (9th in the Big 12, missed tournament)
2017 class: 33rd nationally, 3rd in the Big 12 (8th/9th in the Big 12, will make the tournament as a 10 seed or better)

My comment was made in regards to Texas playing some of their best basketball right now.
Regardless, I'll bite. They have the same conference record as us (worse overall record). Not really enviable territory.

Then the forest needs a lesson in how to read conference standings because we finish tied with them. Tiebreakers decide tourney seeds but don't change the fact that we tied with them, Baylor, and possibly OSU for sixth in the league.
I bet KU is pretty envious of OSU.
