I think we probably wind up with a new coach.
It's one thing to envision the number of losses (over/under at 20 anyone?) at this point in the season. It will be another to actually witness them, one by one, read the write-ups, see the long faces on the bench (coaches and players), see programs like Nebraska streak by us, suffer the slings and arrows of Pokes and Longhorns et al and see that "11" or "12" by our name in the conference standings. And to top it off, we're looking at probable NCAA sanctions. If those come in the midst of a horrible season it will only go from bad to worse.
I'm not a Capel hater, I still think he's a better coach than we are seeing. He's had a tough break with some MCD AAs who many other coaches were recruiting. However, he hasn't done enough to point the finger at himself for the position in which he finds himself. We may spiral down from here (like texas did in football, and look at all those 4/5 stars).
But, chances are, we'll get a little better (we'll settle on a steady line-up and rotation, the early season is time to experiment, especially with a virtually new team) - but everyone else will too. Our window this year to pull upsets is extremely small this year due to the talent level.
So it's no stretch to say that this season will end in a huge funk. We may not see attitude problems but our win-loss looks like it may be worse than last year. With that, and the NCAA, how does Capel recruit? Something tells me Boren and Joe C. want to stick by him. But with all that bad mojo how can he stay?
I started this season cautiously pessimistic. It's still early, but, sadly, it seems to be playing out. I assume the worst with the above (re the record and the NCAA) and it may not be fair but that's my mood right now.
