Didn't the Villanova coach turn his nose up at Oklahoma when we were searching for a head coach?

I think when Sampson left Wright was contacted, at least that's what we heard but Wright is an east coast guy. He has ZERO interest of living in a flyover state. I doubt he was ever approached though.

Although a great coach, I'm not sure he would have been a good fit in Norman either.

I though the "official" explanation of the Jay Wright contact was to get feedback on Jeff Capel, who had served on the coaching staff of the USA World University Games team with Wright.

I think his name was thrown out there but I'm not sure there was ever any interest.

I remember a message board post from some OU fans who saw him at the Final Four the year Capel got fired and asked him to come to OU. He said he already had a great job at Villanova.

His name always comes up. He's a great coach, but you can tell he is a regional guy. He looks and sounds like a guy from the Philly area, and he'd probably be a fish out of water here in Oklahoma. I can't see him leaving his current job unless one of the true blueboods comes after him hard.

Anyway, I think both schools couldn't be happier with the coaches they have.

Even if he did "turn his nose up" at the OU job, it's pretty clear he didn't make a mistake. Just made his second final four, has a great program, and will end his career as one of the winningest coaches in ncaa history.

I heard on radio show for whatever that is worth, that Jay Wright said "why would I take a job that was a step down?" when asked about the OU job.
