I just recieved word that Jelon Hornbeak, the guard or of Grace Prep in Fort Worth Texas just committed to the Sooners. We will have more on his breaking commitment with an article and quotes.

Quotes from Hornbeak, Dallas area guru Glenn Smith and Ray Forsett (Hornbeak's quote) have been added to the commitment article.

This is fantastic news.

Awesome!

Do you think OU is done for 2012, or will they still go after a big to round out the class?

Re: Jelon Hornbeak commits

With three of his AAU teammates committed I'm not surprised at this news.

Nice! Boomer Sooner.

Not complaining, just curious...it's nice to have depth but that makes both of our 2012 commitments shooting guards, and two highly rated ones at that. Is that normal?

2012 should be a great year! I don't want to overlook this season, but it's hard not to

reminds me a bit of Ebi Ere and Jason Detrick, Ebi started but Jason played alot and both were on the floor at the same time...

Just about everybody plays two wings or shooting guards now. Both of these guys are very good players. Hopefully Smart will change his mind and we will be absolutely loaded on the perimeter.

I think this may be a case of taking the best players available, regardless of position, as well as recruiting to a specific need. Keep in mind that Pledger will be a senior next year. With his departure, OU would have been left without a true shooting guard on the 2012 roster. Calvin Newell will likely play the two this year, but he'll be at a size disadvantage with every opponent we face.

Cam Clark and Tyler Neal will have to handle small forward duties. Osby can also swing to that position if need be. That leaves Osby, Arent, Fitz, Amath M'Baye, who will be eligible next year, to fill both post spots, with Osby swinging to the three and Neal moving to the four when necessary.

I would like to see us use our third ship on an athletic wing who can score...that is, unless there is a better player available we can't pass up at another position.

I like this pick up!

Nice get. There were people "worried" about recruiting a few weeks ago. Worried that LK wouldn't get top kids. Well, there is two top 100 guards in his first few months on the job. LK is going to recruit just fine at OU. I don't worry about that at all.

To get two top 100 non juco guards is huge. Especially when we have been subjected to Capel jocksniffing top 10 kids nationally and ending up with juco 4pt per game backup plans. OU just missed out on their top target, Smart, was in the mix of another top wing, Grant, but rallied and got two highly regarded guards as backup plans.

kudos to lonnie... two top 100 highschoolers... not something i thought we'd see this early, if at all...

Agreed.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Loving what LK is doing :OUbball-logo:

I get the impressions that Coach Kruger really likes innerchangeable players. If he has a couple of 6'4 guards and a few 6'6 to 6'8 forwards, you can get away with a smaller center because you have length accross the board. Hield and Hornbeak give them a very nice sized backcourt for the future.

I think they will still go after a big, though I don't know who. The alternative is to have 7 scholarships available in 2013, and that just doesn't seem like a good plan (though, neither does taking a kid in 2012 just to take somebody).

Not sure whom we're in on at this point, but a solid big man out of HS would be ideal. Maybe a project, as he'll have a couple of years to learn before needing to play major minutes.
