Anyone else wishing he would hurry up and commit so that we can get started with the 2013 class?

It is always nice to have your PG of the future out helping get bigs.

Be a Sooner, Jordan!

Hearing he'll be at the OU Alumni event this weekend.

I thought he was going to commit in July. Obviously he didn't but it would be nice if he picked OU and soon.

I'm gonna guess he commits this weekend, or shortly after.

You're not alone, BT! Getting our PG of the future on board is definitely important to any success we'll have in signing the bigs we want in the 2013 class.

Pull the trigger, Jordan!

Jacob Hammond from OKC sky will be here as well.

We already signed Cousins...

Cousins is not a true point guard. He was a combo guard until his senior year in high school. It's true that Kruger told him he could play the one this year, and I, for one, happen to believe he may push Grooms for playing time this fall. But Kruger also knows that you can't put all of your eggs in one basket when it comes to the point guard position. That's a lesson Capel learned the way.

If Cousins doesn't work out, gets home sick and goes back to New York, or he (God forbid) goes down with an injury, who will run our offense next season? Hornbeak might do it. But he's not a true point guard either. Bedies, would you really want to go into the season with only one player on the team who can play the point?

Woodard is very important to our 2013 class. If he doesn't sign with OU, you can bet that LK and company will not let the sun set on next year's class without signing a PG to replace him.

Kruger specifically said in a recent interview that Cousins is a true point guard who played combo in high school because of his size.

Gotta think there was some coach-speak in that statement. He might be able to become a true pg, but I don't see him as that now. Time will tell.

I hope Kruger is right. But even if he is, that has nothing to do with the point I made in my response to TheGimper. OU needs to sign a point guard in the 2013 class.

How many times have we heard that Russell Westbrook isn't a "point guard"?

I don't disagree that we need a PG in the 2013 class. I'm not as high on Woodard as a lot of folks here, but I would love to get him as an early commit. I could see him being a solid back-up his freshman year. When was the last time OU had a back-up PG that didn't make us groan anytime they stepped onto the court?

I'd like Woodard but we loaded up on guys just like him, please get me Omega Harris for 2014 and a couple of adequate bigs for 2013.

You and I are in agreement that we both seem to really want Omega Harris. I can't quite pinpoint why. I know in his highlight videos he looked like a smaller version of Willie Warren, at least in my opinion.

We still have to sign a guard or two for 2013. Otherwise we go into that season with Hornbeak, Cousins, Hield, and Clark as the only true 1-3 position players. Sure, Neal and M'Baye might play out there some, but we still need another body. It also helps spread the guards out, class-wise.

There will still be room for Harris in 2014.

Westbrook is a unique talent. Despite his faults and the mistakes he makes, he still gets the job done. If Cousins is half as good, I couldn't care less if he's not a true point guard.

Time and experience are key to solid point guard play. That's why I'm not ready to annoint Isiah Cousins just yet. It will be interesting to see how long it takes him to adjust to a faster, more physical college game. If the highlight videoes I saw are any indication, he may take to it like a duck to water. We'll know before long.

As for your question about back up point guards, you all but confirmed my point about the importance of bringing in a youngster like Woodard in our 2013 class, so he will be prepared to take over when the time is right. If he's good enough to do it as a freshman, more power to the kid!
