No real inside information here, just that for the first time this Summer the coaches will be on the road to scout out prospect. Given recent changes in NCAA rules this period is now for scouting only by my understanding.

With a very limited number of scholarships for 2011 it will be interesting to see how the coaching staff approach this period. With a talented 2012 class in the state of Texas the lack of 2011 scholarships could be beneficial as they will have more time to focus on future needs.

Here is a list of possible destinations for the coaching staff based on regional and national tournaments.

July 9-15
Mullens High Profile Event - Tulsa, OK (9-12) Features Junior College and Prep Players. Athletes first will be there, Robert Goff is among the juco players in attendance.
Website

GASO - Duncanville, Texas (9-12). Lots of Prep players from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, etc. Dallas Mustangs, Team Texas, Dallas Showtyme and others will be there.
Website

AAU Nationals - Little Rock, Arkansas Prep players from all over, some notable names I have heard that are Julius Randle, Stevie Clark, Juwuan Parker.
Website

DFW Showcase presented by Metroplexhoops.com - Desoto, TX. (12-13) Top talent in the DFW area will be there.
Website

Peach Jam Nike EYBL Finals, North Augusta, SC (July 12-15)
Top 24 Nike sponsored AAU teams will be there.

For the 22-31 period there are many tournaments in the Kansas City Area along with Vegas.

There will be coverage of some of the tournaments by OUHoops.com in the upcoming weeks.

Who is Capel's best recruiting assistant now that Oronde is no longer here?

Dionne, but don't sleep on Goodman. Goodman has been doing alot of the coordinating of the recruiting I hear. It was posted on this board that he was the lead on Ahmed.

I am more worried about the loss of Cline on the recruiting front then Oronde

Dionne coordinated the Elite camp last year and I came away very impressed with him. I agree about losing Cline. Parents like to see a father figure type. As for Oronde, his recruiting track record is pretty good, but when I was listening to him give a recruiting spill to OSU commit, Michael Cobbins, I came away unimpressed.

I didn't known that about Dionne, that is good to hear as it should be a good sign for his recruiting.
I am not sure what Oronde did well to be honest, I know he played a big role in the recruitment of Willie, TMG and Tiny but in hindsight that doesn't seem like to big of a deal. I know Cline played a role in TJ and Cam, plus he just seemed like a guy who was motivated and willing to work hard. I hope our current staff can replicate that.

Oronde's track record with Patrick Beverly, Olu Fatimini, Ronnie Brewer, and some of the other guys he got at Arkansas really inflated his resume. He had WW committed to Arkansas when Heath lost his job. The relationship still existed and I personally believe he used that leverage to get the OU position. The relationship with WW led to TMG and Gallon.

Oklahoma is going to be the epicenter of recruiting. In Little Rock, coaches are going to get a head start on some kids, in Tulsa, coaches are going to look at some juco's to plug spots and solidify the deal with some high school kids, and in Texas, coaches are going to discover some unknown kids. Alot of coaches are going to be traveling 1-40 and I-35 this week.
