Manning has just hired Shea Seals as player development director.. non coaching position.. which means.. Parker cannot be a recruited athlete at TU.. only way around that, is if he were to walk-on which isn't likely...

Why? Is Parker related to Shea Seals?

His dad is a school employee. All employee kids go to school for free at TU. I think that is away around it.

NCAA rules.. if Shea were hired in a coaching position Juwan could still receive an athletic scholarship.. because it's a non coaching position he cannot.. It's too prevent hiring shenanigans to get players.. Juwan can walk on.. but again that is not likely...

Interesting rule. Do you by chance have a link to the actual text of the rule? I'd be interested in seeing how exactly they define the relationships that would prohibit a scholarship being offered.

Taken from the TU board:

NCAA Bylaw 11.4.2 was put in place to prevent colleges from hiring high school coaches to lure prized recruits to campus. It reads: “In men’s basketball, during a two-year period before a prospective student-athlete’s anticipated enrollment and a two-year period after the prospective student-athlete’s actual enrollment, an institution shall not employ (or enter into a contract for future employment with) an individual associated with the prospective student-athlete in any athletics department non-coaching staff position.”

So it's OK to hire slimeball AAU coaches but not high school coaches. The NCAA is living in the 1960's. :facepalm

(Incidentally, that's not intended as a comment about Shea Seals.)

And apparently it's still ok to hire a kid's dad to drive the bus, too.

"an individual associated with the prospective student-athlete"

sounds like it includes family members, aau coaches and just about anything in between to me...??? again, if the person was hired in a coaching position... thats different...

Clearly you read the whole rule and not just the first sentence...

The TU beat writer was on the radio yesterday.. & he thought it pretty much eliminated them... Eric Bailey..

He gets tution and room and board for FREE. HE dad works there! If he wants to go to TU then there is NO need for a scholarship!

I have no clue what the rules are but it seems odd to me that a top 100ish basketball player could go to school for free, play ball and not count as a scholarship.

Well, I share different sentiments about that then Bailey.

Sam or anyone else heard the rumblings that he is looking to go to a PREP school now for his senior year and sign early? I assume it is just a rumor going around.
