Karron Johnson?

In conference play, there were only a couple of games where Walton was relied on due to early foul trouble for Lace Dunn:

One of those was at Texas. Walton had 14 pts, 6 steals and 2 assists. I agree with sys- his weakness was carelessness with the ball and foul shooting. I expect both will improve.

He was the leading scorer (20 ppg) in an Athletes in Action tour in Poland that included some all conference Missouri Valley players, guys from Purdue and Illinois.

I've seen him play in open gym and he is looking strong. I'm definitely a Baylor thumper but last year I only hyped Udoh preseason. This year I think Acy and Walton will surprise many with their high production.

They will need some high point production cuz BU's defense is gonna suck something awful sans Udoh, IMO.

Drew's teams have been a joke in terms of interior defense until Udoh came to town.

IMO, he was the MVP for his team in the entire country last season.

a man is entitled to his opinions, but I disagree with your conclusions. When Drew was the head coach at Valpo before he took the Baylor job, Valpo was rated 1st in their conference in almost every defensive statistic- rebound margin; defensive FG pct; efficiency, etc...

Drew took the Baylor job and surprisingly, great bigs weren't chomping at the bit to play at Baylor at the time. So Drew decided to go small ball and recruit the best guards he could find- Aaron Bruce; Curtis Jerrells, Henry Dugat, Tweety Carter and Lace Dunn. He did land Kevin Rogers who wanted to go to Kansas but KU pulled the scholarship offer. Rogers was athletic, but soft. Not a good defender at all even though he had good size.

It is hard to be a good defensive team with a guard focused lineup in a big boy league like the big 12. If Capel didn't know this heading into last season, he knows it now. OU's team last year had some similarities to those Baylor teams prior to last year in that their top players were guards- Crocker, Warren, Davis and Mason-Griffin. OU like Baylor two years ago had great struggles on defense due to the size problems.

I don't underestimate Udoh's talents. He was a premier shot blocker and a solid rebounder. But Baylor's success defensively is more than Udoh. The big reason they have improved defensively is that they have quality bigs now. Cory Jefferson brings a lot of the same things to the table that Udoh did. He thinks defense first and at 6'9" 225lbs, he has the physical tools to be a great defender like Udoh (long wingspan; quick leaper; good timing; lunch pail guy) Baylor also has 6'10" Anthony Jones; 6'11" Perry Jones; 7'0" Dragan Sekelja; 6'8" Quincy Acy and 6'7" Fred Ellis.

They may take a step back after losing Udoh defensively. I have my concerns about Perry Jones passiveness on defense. But Baylor is not going back to the days of two years ago when they started 5'9" Carter; 5'11" Dugat; 6'0" Jerrells; 6'4" Dunn and 6'9" Rogers. They have better size and balance now and they roll out an athletic front line with a lot of size. Now that Lomers is gone, they can play more man to man (which is actually Drew's preference). But they have had good success with the match-up zone and will probably continue to make that their base defense. They have four good shot blockers on the roster- A.Jones/P.Jones/Jefferson/Acy. I doubt the interior defense is going to be a huge concern.

To show how much the roster has changed, my greatest concern for Baylor is outside shooting. Lace is a great outside shooter. But apart from him, there are unknowns.

Also for kicks, my prediction on the 2011 OSU Class is...Karron Johnson, Damien Leonard and Bruce Barron.

I would take that. Although at point i would love to get Ky Madden or Jabarie Hinds

AJ Walton...I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not ready to say that he is even close to Carter or Jerrells. But Walton is surrounded by better scoring talent than any of the other Baylor guards ever had. He gets Dunn as a senior along with Jones, Acy and Jones should help him rack up the assists.

I thought I read that Karron Johnson was looking elsewhere...like West Virginia.

He was when he was back east, but he is now going to school in Texas and re-committed to OSU.

I wonder what Indy's scouting report on Johnson was? I remember him saying that he would qualify.

Who can believe a word that IDIOT says, also said at Faith 7 game that Taylor Griffin participated in that he didn't have a D-1 body.

Point, the guy couldn't have been at the game.

He lies.

How many yrs does Karron Johnson have left? When did his clock start? I thought you only had 5 to play 4.

He graduated in '09. So, he'll be a sophomore in JUCO this season, and would have three years to play two at OSU.

Didn't Fred Gulley beat Walton for Arkansas POY two years in a row. Just saying you don't see alot of OSU fans pumping up Gulley. I would wait to crown A.J. Walton till he shows a little more.

OK, he has been to so many schools, that I thought he was class of 08 and this would be his 3rd year. I thought he might be like the kid at Iowa State that only had 1 year of eligibility left. Guess I got confused, thanks.

By player of the year do you mean Mr Basketball? Then no- AJ Walton has a Mr Basketball for Arkansas to his resume. Perhaps Gulley does as well. Gulley is a good player as long as he doesn't need to shoot outside or foul shots. Walton is a baller. I know 'em when I see 'em.

He may not need to score much because he has Dunn and Acy to carry the load there. But he will be among the top 5 in the conference in assists and steals. You can book that.

I believe Gulley was named the Gatorade POY in Arkansas twice. I don't know if that correlates to Mr. Basketball or not.
