Kayla Wells 6'1" 2017

GoWarriors mentioned her the other day. She is from South Grand Prairie. You can't tell much from a highlight clip but it does appear she is a good athlete with adequate handles. Not sure where she is expected to play in college but guessing the 3 or 4.

She is really good! Many schools like A&M have offered her. She's a 2 or 3 player..Great midrange shot. Good all round player.

Yes, much more athletic, dynamic and consistent of a shooter. She's the real deal! She be able to guard 2-4 too.

Great info! One of our problems is, there is too much of a drop off from the starters to the reserves, an exception is ViVi who is playing pretty well. If we could start Wells and bring Dungee off the bench, maybe we wouldn't fall too far before getting Wells back in the lineup. Having quality back ups would help a lot.

There just are so many birds in the bush that you can't appreciate those in hand.

Norm,

I don't dislike you, but this is the kind of thing that bugs me about your mentality. We have signed Dungee, one of the highest rated players in the United States (There are thousands upon thousands of girls playing HS basketball - so anyone in the top 100 is VERY highly rated), yet you already suggest we put her on the bench behind a player who is highly unlikely to ever be a sooner - and who no one can possibly know for sure how good a college player she will be.

Why in the universe would you want to do that? Dungee is likely reading this board. None of us can POSSIBLY know - with certainty - how these kids will eventually play - so why be disrespectful toward one we have signed. It just makes no sense. Think about all the ways you could express the thought of getting "put any name here" and yet be reasonable and respectful to kids who have already signed with us.

I personally am extremely happy Chelsea has signed with us, and am very hopeful she will turn into a star. It seems crazy for any supporter to already write her off as nothing but a sub during her career.

Plus, if we signed this girl "Wells" you mention, the second she committed and/or signed with us, you would immediately say something like "Well she may someday make an OK practice squad player".

Pretty much true.

Did you bother to read what GoWarriors said? He is one of the most knowledgeable basketball guys on this board. I don't recall you complaining when people have projected Nancy will start next year which will keep ViVi from being a starter. Is it possible that ViVi reads this board? Aren't you afraid she will get her feelings hurt? It has also been projected that Llanusa will start. Doesn't that mean that players like L Williams and Penzo will be backups? What if they read that on a message board? Much of what is discussed on message boards are hypotheticals and "what ifs". I can't tell you how many people have suggested on this board that so and so should start yet no one complains. I hope this answers your questions.

Norm is not shy about posting how we would do it if he was coach. Fortunately for our record, he's not.

Yes she's going to be more of a and can play some 3. Ball handling is her issue right now but a great role player

When posters don't know anything about basketball they just attack other posters. #somethingsneverchabge

I've already seen her play several times this year and her handles are much better than last year (remember on a junior but already looks like a college player). She will be a starter in college--too good of a shooter not to start and great body to get boards and play tough defense. Versatile player 2 or 3. She is a baller!!

I hear you but Wells is good for school ball but it didn't transfer well to the summer ball talent. She didn't start with the United group nor was she able to play the wing spot.

The starters for that team was

Charlie Collier
Jade Williams
Ana llanusa
Grayson
Jonah johnson

This was after Cox made the USA team though...before she made the team collier came off the bench.

Wells did good and got meaningful minutes at times but against the EYBL competition she couldn't really handle the ball. She is actually more of a slasher type of player, puts you in the mind frame of Cory Brewer of the rockets. She will be a great glue/high energy type of kid but not someone you will lean on.

At the small forward spot i would play Dungee over Wells just because her shot is much better but i would definitely use her as a 4 for small ball. I personally would take Kayla Owens at that spot over either Dungee or Wells being she's faster than both, handles the ball better and more athletic. Dungee is still the better shooter though but with the versatility of all 3 of them you can play them all together.

Texas United had no clue what they were doing. They had Wells playing out of position most of the time as a 4. Two of those players you mentioned as starters are not good enough to win on the Nike circuit. I won't mention which two but most experts would know which ones I'm talking about. Once Cox left for USA that team fell apart and basically couldn't win another game. They never made Nike Nationals. Coach Blair has offered and they really like Wells. She can score from anywhere on the court. I personally love her game. Her high school coach told me all the power conferences are recruiting her heavily. We'll see.

I watched some film on the United games this summer and Johnson, Ryan, Kayla Wells and another young lady all came off the bench.

The Starters were

Charlie Collier
Jade Williams
Grayson Bright
Alaysia Ready
Ana Llanusa

This was after cox did not play.

You are right.....United would change out Ready, Cook, and Johnson as far as the pg was concerned.

When discussing offers you can't really use A&M as a college to judge the talent anymore. They are at a state where they are begging for talent now.

There's a changing of the guards right now in the state of Texas. If you think of it and remember everything, Baylor would get first pick of the top talent and then what was left of the top talent would filter off to A&M. Well now Texas has become Baylor.... so A&M isnt getting what they used to get. A&M will become the new Texas when it comes to the recruiting in the state of Texas. There's a lot of talent in the state but not enough for 3 major universities.

Not a knock on Wells talent but i just don't see her being a impact player on a top 25 team. She will be at a major university but i don't see her getting a lot of minutes on a top 25 team. They played her where she had to play over the summer, ball handling on that level is way different than school or the level of play she came from with the Arlington Swoosh ( her aau team before she came to EYBL) and that's the biggest thing i noticed from watching her play.

If Dungee or any other recruit is reading this board...
1. It's only a message board and not the gospel. Mostly opinions.
2. This message board will not compare to the media...sports columnist and reporters. You must prepare yourself for the media and scrutiny of Div. I hoops. It does not mean you cannot show emotion and passion...even cry if you wanna'...but it's the reality.
3. Our hope as fans is that you exceed our expectations and win baby win.
4. Posters...we're human and the only reason we are not under scrutiny (and maybe a few are) on a message board because privacy laws protect us on our jobs in most cases. AND...nobody cares. Clearly we care about OU WBB because we keep discussing it.
5. For every post you see and deem negative or untrue...take note and make a liar out of us.
