Kelvin-Houston

I will always be proud of the OU teams Kelvin put on the floor. He and Kruger exemplify everything I like about college ball - fundamentals, valuing character in players, making it consistently to the tourney with quality kids, and good teams. Kelvin has recruiting skills, people (public/media/donor) skills, x's and o's, player relationship skills, and had them back when he was at OU. Now that it sounds like he's loosened up his offensive mentality from his time in the pros (and sounds like he might let em run a bit), he's going to be a dangerous man to go against.

That rule was stupid, but it was a rule. As I recall they counted texts as phone calls or something. I don't want to get into all that, and I think doing it twice is downright stupid, but so was that stupid rule. All said, he could quite possibly end up being a better coach because of it.

Indiana fans are idiots. Houston made out in this deal.

I was reading this exchange thinking I have heard Gettys talk often about when he was an assistant with Clyde at UH. Glad that was confirmed because I was starting to think I'd had a stroke or something.

^ This. Indiana fans are like the idiot who had something, then lost it, and never even knew he had it.

Kelvin Sampson is truly one of the best college basketball coaches in America. He was demonized – even by many OU fans – for breaking a rule that was both petty and ridiculous, and is (rightfully) now no longer a rule.

I hope Kelvin wins a national title at UH. And you can bet, if he's given the time and resources he needs, he'll at least have the Cougars in the hunt at some point. I would never root against our Sooners against any opponent; but it would be uncomfortable for me if OU ever had to play a Sampson-coached team.

I read something the other day that Kellen was fired from App State when they let their coach (Jason Capel) go. Kelvin is going to hire Kellen on at Houston. Be interesting to see who his other assistants are. Plenty of Texas talent to draw from, he won't have to recruit too far from home.

Congratulations to the best coach in America.

Ooner!
