would appear so but being an old I can remember a few Semi's like this that seemed like the defacto championship game only to see the winner fall flat on Monday. Unfortunately the primary one would be OU-Arizona in '88. Thought for sure the winner of that would breeze to the title. Others that come to mind are Houston-Lousiville in '83 which was a great 1 vs 2 matchup followed by the unforgettable NC State win over Houston in the NC. A few years later in '85 it was the Georgetown - St Johns semi , the year that Villanova then shocked the Hoyas. Our Sooners were oh so close to getting Villanova in the semi's but lost a heart breaker to Memphis St. in Dallas at the Elite 8

Good examples. On the other hand, we benefited in 2002, because if they reseeded, we wouldn't have played Indiana. We would have been the third seed in that FF, so we would have played either Maryland or KU (can't recall which of them was the higher on the overall seed list that year). Obviously we could have beaten either (since we already had), but Indiana was definitely the weakest of the teams in Atlanta that year.

Perhaps it is known by some, just not me.

I read the book "The Undefeated" by Jim Dent which was all about OU's 47-game football winning streak back in the 1950s. It was mentioned that OU built their football tradition shortly after WWII when they hired Jim Tatum (who had an assistant named Bud Wilkinson). The rich oil tycoons in the state of Oklahoma wanted desperately to be a dominant football school. The guys coming back from the war were already in their 20s and already had a wife and kids. They needed MONEY more than an education. A large slush fund was created for this purpose. I guess it was karma in that (also mentioned in the book) Notre Dame sent over a player to be a spy the week of the game that ended the 47-game streak. This player "committed" to play for OU and then attended every practice that week. When ND went up 7-0 in the 4th quarter, OU assistant Gomer Jones yelled out, "they know our plays!" He then looked at the ND sidelines and saw their new "commit" celebrating after ND took the lead.

That was the long, drawn-out explanation that schools sometimes cheat .
