Durant donated One Million Dollars today. More notable he didn't even announce it publicly. He just did it and the Red Cross announced the donation. Perhaps he and his people thougt through things and did it intentionally that way but it still impresses me.

OKC is lucky to have this guy. Look around professional sports and I would argue you won't find a better person than Durant currently playing. I am sure several are his equal but far too many are nothing but egotisical, self centered people that don't even realize how lucky they are.

This guy strikes me as a great role modle and truly humble man that cares about his community and appreciates what he has in life.

Sorry for the off topic comment but I thought he deserved the recognition.

I continue to be impressed by KD. We are lucky to have him as a basketball player, but more importantly, as a person.

I dont think he and his people discussed it at all.

I think he and his mom thought that some money would help so he did it.

He's a darn good kid. I am sure she's so proud of him, as she should be.

Plus he doesn't feel the need to tatoo up his whole body like some other nba wanna be gangstas.

With all this talk about tax exempt organizations & IRS scrutiny, the Red Cross should be the template of what type of organizations the law permits to have tax exempt status.

The Red Cross is one of the worlds trusted & great institutions.

I have a tattoo -- does that make me gangsta? If so, this news could be real life changer for me (and my wife, for that matter).

Dont know if you guys know, but his donation triggered the Thunder to match, then the NBA also matched it.

I don't in any way intend to diminish the gesture, but it's worth noting that the donation came not from Durant himself, but from his foundation, which is funded in part by outside donations.

I saw it referred to as his 'family foundation'. How do we know that it's funded partially by outside donations.

It's still remarkably generous. I work for a multi-national corporation worth billions and they are only matching employee contributions up to $50,000.

A family foundation is a tax motivated charitable institution. How they typically work is you put money in the foundation, receive a current donation (there are annual limits) and then control the foundation so you get a future benefit. There could be other money in the foundation but it is common for it to just be funds from the person establishing the foundation. This is especially true when the foundation is new.

A large oil company?

It is easy to think large corporations are cheap (and you didn't say that) but people forget they get asked for money all the time. They also have operations all over the place so they might be matching $50K in another state at the same time.
