Kevin Martin - keep?

Will the Thunder pay him or let him go? I assume he will get around $5 million per year from somebody. His limitations are well known now.

If the Thunder can keep him for 5 million I think that's good enough value to keep him. I wouldn't pay much more than that.

Agreed with the $5 million number. I think the Thunder would pay more than that for him, so hopefully some terrible team will offer him a number the Thunder can't match. Looking at you, MJ.

A Charlotte offer isn't happening. MJ handed the keys to Rich Cho. Cho has that franchise committed to a full rebuild.

I've seen a lot of people throw around salary figures in that range, but I'll be a little surprised if he's playing for $5 million a year. Most of the time, you can take what you think a player should get, then tack on at least $2-3 million. I don't think Martin plays for that little.

Perhaps the tax penalties of the new CBA finally being in full effect will change that a bit, but there aren't enough legitimate stars in the league for every team to fill out its cap, so good role players often get overpaid. Also, there are going to be a lot of teams with significant cap room this summer, and not too many high quality free agents available.

For example, consider Milwaukee, which is a perpetually mediocre team partly because their owner cares more about making the playoffs than simply rebuilding. Even after re-signing one of their two undersized chuckers (Jennings/Ellis), they'll have a lot of cap space, and Redick isn't coming back, so there will be a huge void in the backcourt. If your goal is to win 40-45 games and grab an 8 seed in the East, and you have a boatload of cap space but no shot of signing some other team's star free agent (because you're Milwaukee) or potential star restricted free agent (because those guys get matched), what's stopping you from throwing $8 million a year at Kevin Martin?

Portland will also have significant cap space, and they desperately need bench help. LaMarcus Aldridge is 27-years-old and will be a free agent in 2015. Thus, if they intend to keep Aldridge, they can't be too patient with their rebuild. I could see them overbidding for Martin, especially if they can't get someone like Redick.

The 3 guys similar to Martin IMO are Marcus Thornton ($8M) JJ Redick ($6M) & OJ Mayo ($4M).

Martin has made a good chunk of change playing on crappy teams over the course of his career. I could see him taking a lower salary to stay in a winning situation.

With Westbrook out he has the chance to up his worth by increasing his production/efficiency in a larger role. Going 8-22 with 4 rebounds & 5 assists in the first 2 games is not the best start though.
