I’m taking my son to his first OU basketball game. I’ve waited a long time because I wanted him to get to an age where he understands and enjoys the actual game.

I am going to take him to Alcon State as we will be in town that weekend and so that way he will get a guaranteed win, and we can sit closer down to the floor. Would love to get him court-side seats, but I’m sure those are insane even with it being Alcon state.

My question is what are some things I can do for him to give him the best experience for a first time goer? He loves basketball and watches the thunder nonstop. He loves when he sees the “OU Sooners” on TV and sits to watch them and cheers. I just want him to have a very great experience. I’m going to try and get him there a little early in hopes to have him get some auto graphs from the players if they will?

unfortunately there isn't a lot to do with the young kids. There is a kids zone in the upper concourse there they can makes signs and sometimes have balloon animals made. Maybe facepaint? And then run down the mascots to get picks. Besides that, I can't think of anything else.

Have fun!

Get there when the doors open. Sit courtside or on the baseline as long as you can.

Post game. Go up the tunnel towards the men’s office and coaches will hang out there and coaches wives, stick around and Porter will come out and ask him for a pic and if you’re lucky he’ll take you in the new office and show you around.

If you’re feeling extra, outside the men’s office is player parking. Every player will come out that way and they’ll take pics if you want, they get to go meals so they’ll have food with them most likely. But they’ll drop it all for a pic or Sign a ball or sign etc.

The Alcorn State game is the Students game at McCasland. Not sure if there will be an opportunity to get tickets to that one.

I hate to rain on your parade, because this sounds like an awesome idea. On the other hand, I don't want you to have extra disappointment of not being able to go as planned.

Oh dang.

Sorry you can't attend that game with your son but if it helps any season ticket holders feel the same way. I will say student attendance last night was pretty good and overall seems to be improved the last year or so, so maybe the student only game is working to build student participation.

Now if only they might do something to encourage others to attend as well.................

Another question for everyone, my son has a SGA jersey signed and he is wanting to get one signed by the OU players. Are we allowed to show up early and then sign something before the game? Or will it have to be after?

Idk how this game will work. I still think if you get there when doors open. Pregame they will sign them.
