KU plans new apartment complex for basketball players

Well, a smaller facility would be a lot cheaper and they are far more concerned with basketball than football. So, they will have to create a facility for about 30 students (athletes and non-athletes) versus a lodging facility that holds 400 students a la Headington Hall. They can make the smaller basketball facility much nicer, I guess.

Kentucky has the same thing, basketball players only, connected to the practice facility. Just built last year. I'd bet it'll become more common.

I guess that makes sense since both programs tend to be running on the one-and-done methodology. I guess not every school can build a Headington Hall either. :woot

It has to be private funding on private land.

Universities CAN'T build new dorm facilities or living facilities for athletes only. 51% have to be from the academic only student population. That is the case of the new dorm facility at OU today. 49% student athletes, 51% students.

The Bud was all athletes because it was an old facility.

You guys do know this is only a $17M project. OU just spent $75M+ on their investment on campus.

OU finally wins!:OU-logo:

To comply with NCAA rules, KU athletics states in its internal student-athlete housing policy that “student-athletes may not receive any special services or material amenities that are not provided to all students on an equitable basis.” So the new apartment building would be open to 34 non-athletes.

I wonder what the monthly rate will be for the 34 non-athletes?

They're probably still upset about when Withey and Weasley set off the fire alarms in the athletic dorms because they were too lazy to take out the trash, then after the fruit flies took over, they set off 5 (according to my friend's fiance who was a RA in the building) bug bombs... OR the time they forgot to turn off the water in the bathroom and flooded the apartment

Ya, let's give these guys a shiny, brand new building to themselves!
