KU vs TT

I didn't follow his years at Minnesota very closely, but it seemed he didn't get all that much accomplished there -- am I wrong about that?

He made the round of 32 last year at Minnesota, who has never accomplished anything in basketball. They were absolutely idiots to fire him.

Maybe that loss to Tech wasn't so bad after all? They are playing well.

I think the fact they were going to play us tough was not a surprise to many - most on this board predicted it. The issue was that we did not come out ready to play and did not give them the respect they deserved. They are going to be a tough game for anyone down the stretch. The exception might be their return trip to KU where the money slot to the refs locker room will include bonus money.

Minnesota was in the national title game 10 years more recently than we were.

What? Arizona and Kentucky played in the championship you are referring to. Kentucky beat Minnesota in the final four.

nice game by taco tech. gawks had to claw their way out of there with a W.

Tubby is really gettin' down to business.

No, they weren't. They have a Final Four appearance, but that was vacated due to blatant cheating by Clem Haskins. Tubby Smith was a guy they had no business letting go of. He's not a great recruiter (never has been), but he'll almost always squeeze the most out of his talent. He's a better version of Bruce Weber. I look for him to have TTech in the Dance about every other year until he retires.

As others have said, that was not a National Title game and was vacated due to cheating.

In the history of Minnesota basketball, they have officially made the NCAA Tournament 8 times. 3 of those were under Tubby Smith, in the 6 years he was there before being fired. Last year was just the fourth NCAA tournament Minnesota had ever won a game in, and they fired Tubby because of it.
Tech got a steal. Minnesota are idiots.

I think it would be interesting if someone actually did some statistical analysis of calls and then went a step further to determine what calls were questionable.

You're right, my bad.

However, I'm not sure OU fans are in a position to cast aspersions on other programs regarding cheating, since I think we've had Sampson's shenanigans and the Tiny Gallon stuff since then.

Minnesota is no basketball power, but I don't think it's unreasonable for them to keep firing and hiring coaches until they get one who can go above .500 in the conference or do something in the tournament.

I would like to see that report myself. I have a feeling the evidence would show that a few teams, KU and Duke in particular, are the beneficiaries of more calls and no-calls than any school in the country. It's downright shameful at the special treatment they receive, even on the road.

The foul in last night's game that was called a held ball was huge. A foul call would have put Tech at the line with a chance to close KU out with a win. It didn't, and the rest is history.

I personally think Tubby has kind of stalled at Minnesota. Sometimes a fresh challenge is best for all involved. Doesn't mean it will necessarily work for Minnesota, but the change isn't necessarily a failure if it doesn't work, either. Gotta be proactive in looking to take your program to the next level.

A statistical analysis which includes an arbitrary definition of the word "questionable"?

People admittedly are biased, one person's view of "questionable" is different than another's.

Obviously it would be somewhat subjective but it would have more value to me than all of us randomly saying KU gets all the calls.

apples and oranges .. minnesota bball got crushed by the ncaa ..

what sampson did is no longer against the rules ... and gallon got a 3k loan (not from OU) to get his grades released ..

It should be noted that Minnesota's NCAA sanctions came downover a decade ago were entirely because of academic fraud.

Haskins still pocketed over a $1 million dollars after being canned.
