Darrion Strong's injury must be better, as he is playing again. Here is a summary of yesterday's game.

The Coffeyville Red Ravens won their second straight game as they defeated the Butler Grizzlies 76-64 on Saturday night in Nellis Hall. Strong was 10-for-11 from the charity stripe as the Ravens made 25-of-33 attempts as a team on the night.

Definitely good news!

I think Strong will be an important piece to the puzzle next season with his ability to score from the two or swing to the one if need be. In watching the highlight videos on the Prospects Board, I think he was a nice addition to our 2016 class.

I think the hope was that he immediately steps into Cousins' spot next season. I think with the injury and possibility of surgery, that 'immediately' becomes an 'eventually'.

He will be an important player and hopefully Mcgusty can be effective as a point.

I find it pretty unlikely that Strong contributes much more than Walker.

Every year we seem to delude ourselves into thinking this juco transfer or the other is going to come in and be a difference maker. It just so rarely happens. Especially at a school with talent like we have.

Half of this board was convinced that Manyang would start this year, with some worried he would be one and done. He can't even get in the game off the bench.

Are you a younger fan or not around for the Sampson years?

Abercrombie, Erdmann, Brewer, MJohnson, NJohnson, Ere, McGhee, White, Everett, Gray, Neal.

We had far more JC players become stars than HS players.

It's not a "rare" occurrence. Granted it hasn't been how Kruger has operated.

I'm with you. Not near the talent in the JUCO ranks these days. I hope Strong can come in and contribute some energy, a little defense, and five fouls.

If I'm wrong, it won't be the last time.

Better player and prospect than Walker. Injury will be an issue, tho.

Do any of the McGusty/James/Grandstaffs have the ability to play the point ala Cousins this year?

There is talk that McGusty could. Grandstaff is a shooter right now but is planning to use his year off to develop his game away from the ball and off the bounce. Of the 3, I personally think James is the best candidate. I think he has the right mentality and plenty of ability.

I think McGusty, and possibly Strong, might be the best option. Grandstaff won't be available until January 2017 (the second semester). He's more of a two guard with his ability to score and knock down shots from behind the arc. I think James may be the first in line to play Buddy's position next year, along with Odomes and Doolittle. A lot can happen between now and then, so who the heck knows for sure?

It's almost a certainty that someone on our roster will step up to the plate to take over for Cousins. Will they be as good as he is now? Not likely. Keep in mind that Isaiah at the point did not work out his freshman season. A few posters even questioned why he was given a scholarship in the first place. He returned to the two guard position and flourished there, until Coach Kruger gave him the reigns to run our offense this season.

The good news is that we'll have more options next year than we had back then, or at any time in the last three for that matter.
