what kind of jump are you hoping he makes from Fr to Soph?

For me, it's being able to knock down back to the basket post scoring moves (jump hook, rolling hook, up and unders, drop steps etc) and to be able to body up inside against Big 12 bigs.

Getting most of his points without us running plays for him, offensive boards and running the floor. Helping Spangler out on the boards and developing into an elite defender. I'd say around 7 points 6 rebounds while being efficient and our best post defender who can switch onto guards when needed is my wish list.

BT, I think you nailed it with the improvement in Khadeem's post moves. I'll add short range jumpers out to 8 feet or so to that list.

I don't have a problem with seeing him take the longer shots from the perimeter, even from three point range. But, to be more effective as a stretch four, he needs to be able to put the ball on the floor and develop his inside game. Do that, and he could be a match up nightmare down the road a ways.

I want to see him make two mid range jumpers a game on 40% (or better) shooting of that shot for the season. I would like to see him get one back to the basket bucket per game (above 50% shooting on that move). I would like one completed fast break per game (almost 100% shooting on fast break finishes) and one to two garbage baskets (offensive tip ins, Woodard or another guard gives him an easy bucket, rebound in position with an immediate follow for an easy bucket, etc) per game for an offensive average of 11 pts per game.

I also want more rebounds, stay out of foul trouble, block shots and be a defensive force.

If he is not starting, I seriously doubt he can score 11 points a game. If he is coming off the bench, I want to see him consistently make his mid range jumper and show some back to the basket offense. He also needs to finish breaks and get garbage points. Nothing wrong with a being a garbage man. OSU has had some guys make a nice living in college ball that way.

Offense always gets the attention, but I hope he gains weight so he can muscle for rebounds and get them plus get position under the basket for defense. Defense and rebounding will help us more than offense. We should have a good offense.

I agree on elite defender, at the very least.

I don't know that I want him shooting at all this year. Lattin could score about eight points per game on putbacks with layups or slams off offensive rebounds. I'd rather have him go for boards and learn defense. If he just learns how to defend without having to block the shot in order to change it, he will have taken enough of a step forward. Just play position defense, grab rebounds, and get putbacks. Don't do anything to get into foul trouble. It will find you. I would be happy if he were to average six to eight points, all on putbacks, eight to ten rebounds, one blocked shot, and about four or five altered shots per game while keeping between his man and the goal.

He is such a quick jumper, his rebounds, steals, and points should increase. ( The quickest ever jumper was Walter Davis NC, Suns, Nuggets)

If he gets 20 min/game, then he should average 5 rebounds, 1+blocks, 1+ steals, and ~8 points.

last year 11.2 minutes, 3.2 rebounds, 2 points

This year I expect a lot of improvement. 20 minutes +, 6-8 rebounds, 6-8 points, 1-2 blocks and a host of altered shots.

the interesting thing is I have no clue how much he will play. I am certain Spangler is going to play 28+ minutes a game.

I think Spangler plays less than 25 until nut cutting time. Probably 23-24 minutes. Want to keep his legs fresh and not burn so much weight.

Me too. Spangler has, to me , been an incredible surprise. If we can give him a bit of relief, his motor will be full bore for the 25.

It sounds like everyone is expecting Lattin to do what Spangler does most games, just less of it.

Where are we going to get reliable interior scoring when outside shots aren't falling, Manyang? Seems like last year Tashawn was the hope, but he was inconsistent, hence some of the unexpected losses last year.

If OU is going to take it to another level, interior offense is critical.

You are exactly right. If I were playing OU, and had some size, I would play a zone defense & guard the 3 point line. Hopefully, the new bigs improve quickly.

I hope for some defense from Lattin. Rebounds and blocked shots. I think most of his points will be offensive rebounds, tips, etc. Maybe an occasional jumper.

IMHO the big most likely to have a back-to-the-basket post-up game is Buford and he is only 6'7". Maybe McNeace, too..... don't sell him short. He's really athletic, just not experienced.

Lattin doesn't strike me as a back to the basket player.

It's very tough to play a zone and be able to effectively defend the 3.

In fact, it's VERY tough.

Zones are normally what teams go to when they want to pack it in and force the other team to shoot from deep.

The only way to take away a deep shot consistently in a zone is to open up some major driving lanes, specifically at the top. Hield, Cousins, Woodard, Odomes and James are all far too quick and athletic to allow driving lanes like that.

Best defense against OU is a very tight man-to-man, don't double-down on the bigs, and stick to Hield and Cousins like crazy.

Also, let me just add that Manyang and Buford could potentially be very effective scorers when given opportunity.

Think of Buford like Cam Clark, and Manyang as just a big 7-footer who won't easily be stopped by smaller teams (like OSU, Baylor, Villanova, etc.)
