A friend told me that according to James Hale, Lauren has eliminated the Sooners from her list. She is still considering Texas and Baylor.

I told you all our chances were slim to mind of signing her.
She wants to go somewhere that is a contender for a NC every year.

I heard the same as well: her final lists stands at:
South Carolina, UCONN, Baylor, Texas, Louisville, Notre Dame

I expect 1 more school to be off when summer rolls around. That would be down to 5. Sounds like she isn't making a decision until she takes her 5 officials this fall. If she picks a Big 12 school it will be an miserable 4 years for the Sooners.

Well, crap. We are just going to have to win it all one year to be able to change a 1-5 recruit to select us. Until then, we have to just keep trying.

I'd sure like to know why.

Clear now why we are looking at Paige too.

I think you're right. She wants to play for a team that is headed toward a NC. I guess she felt we are too far away. Texas isn't close right now but Lauren may think they have a better future than we do.

Her skill set is phenomenal and her size is unlike anything we have had at OU! She's not over weight or to skinny! She has a WNBA body!

Only thing I see on OUinsider is a final 9 from Cox.
With OU on it.
Dated 4/10

Mulkey cut us from her list at one time also... Maybe she will look at OU again. I could see her picking Baylor, but hope she goes to Uconn or USC...

Maybe with the Talk that she was close to picking OU Sherri relaxed a little bit.

I sure hope Sherri was looking at Joyner Holmes from the start...

I agree about Holmes. I also hope Sherri is going after Wilson like her hair is on fire. If I were to take a wild guess, if Cox stays in the Big 12, I would say, Texas has an advantage signing Lauren over Baylor. I just think Karen Aston is a slightly better recruiter than Kim. Of course, I'm not writing off UCONN or ND or the others.

With the recent decommitment from Charli Collier I don't think Cox will pick Texas... I read where Cox and Collier are good friends, I believe Collier and Cox have been playing a little 3/wing for there AAU team, if Kim Mulkey can convince a kid that she would not have to play the post with both Brown and Mompremier in front of her for 3 years and that she's the missing piece to get them past the elite 8 then I think she would listen to that...

Baylor had all the pieces for two or three titles, but converted only once. The title they won in 2005 was an achievement. With what they had during the Griner/Sims years, you might think that they would have been at the level of UConn.

I would be disappointed for Lauren if she were to go to Baylor. We will be OK either way, but I thought she was better than Baylor.

I believe her final 9 has been out for several weeks, at least a month.

Maybe we can hope she does like Mulkey and changes her mind.

It make getting Paige a bit more important, in my view. I still want Wilson too.

IF OU is still looking for post then Felicia Aiyeotan at 6'8 would be a project but wouldn't mind seeing if she could play with Mulkey could run som high low plays... Also Ciera Johnson and Natasha Mack both from Texas are still out there as well... Homles like Cox would be a game changer for Ou she's listed as a 4 but with her skills she would be a match to nightmare because she can put the ball on the floor and drive to the hoop she also has a nice pull up jumper at 6'3

Because we are very limited on ships, I hope we don't sign a project or a "diamond in the rough". I would feel differently if we had 3 or 4 openings. Right now, I want an elite player. We will definitely be falling behind in the league if Cox or Holmes goes to Texas or Baylor, which is exactly what I think may happen. It won't surprise me if one goes to the Bears and the other goes to the Horns. Kim and Karen have proven they can recruit with the best coaches in the country and it is a given they have their complete focus on those girls. To say they are working overtime right now would be an understatement.

Holmes is my first choice, since Cox is out of the picture, as she is a dominant player. I just hope she is our coaches' first choice.

I'm hearing that OU is not in the recruiting picture with Holmes either. I hoping that's not true.

Not so sure about all that Norm. It is true they have been pretty effective at getting several in-state players. But almost everyone is pretty good at that. Neither has been able to go up against UCONN or ND and do very well on a consistent basis. Especially when talking about out of state players, which is exactly what Sherri has to do on a consistent basis.

At least part of Kim's recruiting "success" was done with what the NCAA said was illegal tactics. It is not fair to compare success rates when a coach had to cheat to be successful. By the way, I am not interested in getting back into an argument about the sanctions leveled against Kim and Baylor - but it is disingenuous to use success using such tactics (as judged by an outside arbitrator - the NCAA) as a gauge in comparison to other coaches.

It has never seemed like we were in the picture with Holmes.

Obviously we were - who knows, maybe still are - in the picture with Cox.

Only one school will get the signature of any given player. It does not mean the other contenders were sorry recruiters. It just means that particular player made a choice she felt better about. Sometimes they find out the choice was a good one - sometime it turns out badly.

One thing Cox has learned at Flower Mound is that one player cannot win a championship by herself. Nancy Mulkey proved to be far better at winning than Lauren - or Holmes. Part of that is learning how to make players around you better. That is the most valuable trait a player can carry with her. My hope would be that Cox would think about that as she makes her decision. If she wants to win a championship, playing with Nancy would be an ideal situation. She would be teammates with a great player who would also make Lauren better.

How long are you going to bring up Kim's past? That was what 5 or 6 years ago? Unless she is committing recruiting violations now, it doesn't matter. She was punished for what happened in the past. As far as we know, no violations are currently being committed. If the NCAA finds out differently, great! Until then, it is just sour grapes to bring it up.

It's just a fact that Kim is a better recruiter than anyone in the Big 12 not named Aston.
