Lauren Cox

I don't think we ever were "in on Holmes." Someone would have mentioned it; Hale or someone. I'm not even sure we did anything to reach out to her or vice versa.

Cox -- well, it was always going to be a hard sell. If we can get Paige and/or Wilson, I'm happy with that. We have enough guards, we need a rebounding, scoring stretch 4 to back Maddie up (because I think we realize that is exactly where she's going to play from now on with the all the guards on roster and coming in).

We are just going to have to win it all with what we have next season, the season after that or the one after that.

I think Sherri has learned her lesson on recruiting, and, for the record, I think brining back Pam has been our saving grace the last couple of years. You hear relatively little about Jan on the road or recruiting and only slightly more about Chad.

We just need to take advantage of what we have and win a national championship. I don't think we will see recruiting slack off if we do, like it did after our last final four.

It has never seemed like we were in the picture with Holmes.

Obviously we were - who knows, maybe still are - in the picture with Cox.

Only one school will get the signature of any given player. It does not mean the other contenders were sorry recruiters. It just means that particular player made a choice she felt better about. Sometimes they find out the choice was a good one - sometime it turns out badly.

One thing Cox has learned at Flower Mound is that one player cannot win a championship by herself. Nancy Mulkey proved to be far better at winning than Lauren - or Holmes. Part of that is learning how to make players around you better. That is the most valuable trait a player can carry with her. My hope would be that Cox would think about that as she makes her decision. If she wants to win a championship, playing with Nancy would be an ideal situation. She would be teammates with a great player who would also make Lauren better.

Mylkey is a pretty good passer, she makes her teammates better, but she also has/had a few other D1 prospects on her team....

I really think it'll come down to Baylor or Uconn for Cox, I really thought her and Lou played well off each other in the U17 games.

How long are you going to bring up Kim's past? That was what 5 or 6 years ago? Unless she is committing recruiting violations now, it doesn't matter. She was punished for what happened in the past. As far as we know, no violations are currently being committed. If the NCAA finds out differently, great! Until then, it is just sour grapes to bring it up.

It's just a fact that Kim is a better recruiter than anyone in the Big 12 not named Aston.

It isn't sour grapes Norm. It is a fact. You are comparing them with talk about the last "5 or 6 years", but that is exactly the years when many of the players who she was penalized for have played. I'm not saying she isn't a good recruiter. She is also an excellent - but not great - coach. But I will not count players in her list for whom she was sanctioned.

But if that troubles you, my main point was in the first paragraph. How many great players has she been able to bring in from out of state. Like from the East Coast? Or California? Yes, a few, but not as many as Sherri has been able to bring in from out of state. If she (substitute Kim or Karen) was coaching in say Montana, would she be getting all these Texas players? I don't think so either. She is lucky to be in a state with lots of great players - many of whom want to stay in state from the time they were children. That is a huge advantage - but has nothing to do with the school or recruiter.

Every coach at Texas - men's and women's - has been able to stock up on excellent in-state players. It comes with the territory. Coaches come and go, but signing lots of in-state players goes on.

Sherri has been an excellent coach and recruiter. Name me a single player either Kim or Ashton has brought in from a far away state who has been named a 4 time consensus All American like Courtney. It has not happened.

Once in a while, Oklahoma produces a really marvelous player. But the population makes it impossible for the state to produce that every year. To get the exceptional player Sherri must consistently go out of state to find them. That is dramatically harder than signing 3 or 4 in state players.

To compare the two situations like they are equal produces an invalid argument.

Here we go again on Baylor.

NO ONE CARES! STOP IT BEFORE IT GOES FURTHER.

If we get Wilson, we still have one to give in 16 and there are PLENTY, PLENTY, PLENTY of highly rated players on the W, F and SG/G possibility lists that are just as good as ALyeotan, Wilson, or Page. Some might be just as good or better than Cox.

Let's hope we go out an WIN something to give us another bullet in the gun to attract those highly ranked players.

I would take the fact that Cypress Woods had other D-1 players with a grain of salt. Ogwumike didn't end up at Stanford, like her sisters. She is headed to Pepperdine, a mid-major at best. Another is headed to Tulsa, hardly a national power. When Cypress Woods played in the semis against Ramirez, she was by far the best guard on the court. In the finals, Cypress Woods probably outscored Skyline by twenty with Mulkey on the court, but lost by ten when she wasn't. The best player on the Cypress Woods team not named Mulkey was the freshman forward, and she takes advantage of being somewhat unchallenged.

Fact: Cox and Flower Mound lost to Skyline by 61-34 (27 points).
Fact: Mulkey won over Skyline by 57-49

Without Mulkey, Skyline would have won.

There are a lot of people out there who are 6-4. There aren't many who are 6-9 or 6-10.

Incidentally, Cypress Woods was #4 nationally.

South Carolina, UCONN, Baylor, Texas, Louisville, Notre Dame

It really looks like Cox want to play with other elite players... each school has future All Americans.....

Hale answered the ? about Cox. I am not a insider. I am only subscribed to rivals.

Then, she won't get to play with Nancy, Ana, Chelsea, Gabbi, and Maddie.

You're right, all of those teams have great players there/coming so one can understand why the list has come down to those 6 schools. She could pick any of those teams and have a chance of playing on a NC team. Can't blame her for that.

No, she'll get to face them and I think she will do it at Texas. Can't see her going anywhere else.

She makes a MAJOR difference for them right off the bat and gives them just what they need to get to the top of the pack and go far in the NCAA tournament IMMEDIATELY.

It's something, even with Stafford, that they don't have.

I'm sticking with her picking Baylor or Uconn, I think baylor is the favorite.. Yes it sucks

I'm going with Texas. Yes, that sucks too.

That said, I would like to watch her play in college and the best way for that to happen is if she stays in the Big 12.

Wherever Lauren goes, I will be a fan. Great kid with awesome talent.

I will never again be a fan of anyone who selects Baylor.

No reason to feel that way, Syb. Lots of kids make poor decisions - and I don't ever hold it against them.

And it's possible if she does end up there she will want out after her freshman year - and maybe we will get her at that point.

I expect it is either Texas or Notre Dame - unless she gets smart and switches to the Sooners. ;)

Clearly she was not thinking seriously when she said she wanted to stay close to home or all those other schools would not be in her final 6.

A friend told me that according to James Hale, Lauren has eliminated the Sooners from her list. She is still considering Texas and Baylor.

How does this usually play out? The player contacts the coach - just out of respect for the coach you are walking away from - so she doesn't hold a scholarship too long?

Or does the affected coach ask her to be honest about the true possibilities so she can quit wasting time/effort (and holding a scholarship) on the player?

Some of you are claiming "inside information" about Cox's recruiting. Do you have the facts on what has happened here?

Texas is now off the lists. She reviled her final 6 tonight.

@Raoul_000: WBB: Lauren Cox (TX-2016) has narrowed her list to Baylor, UConn, Louisville, Notre Dame, South Carolina, & Tennessee http://t.co/MXmJ7TBQ5g

"Much message board scuttlebutt and rumors surrounding Lauren Cox’s recruitment had her staying in her native Texas to attend college. The 6-foot-4 junior center from Flower Mound, Texas, and the No. 1-rated recruit in the Class of 2016 could still stay in Texas, but if that’s her choice her destination will be Waco.

Cox has narrowed her list from nine to six, her father, Dennis, confirmed Wednesday.

She has eliminated Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M.

Her final six (in alphabetical order) are Baylor, Connecticut, Louisville, Notre Dame, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Cox has made unofficial visits to Baylor, Louisville, and Notre Dame. UConn and Tennessee did home visits last month. Her father added that she will not take official visits until the fall.

As a junior, Cox was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Texas as she averaged 21.7 points, 15.4 rebounds, and 5.2 blocked shots. In six state tournament games, she averaged 27.7 points, 15.3 rebounds, and 6.5 blocked shots. She had six straight double-doubles including a pair of triple-doubles as Flower Mound reached the state semifinals for the first time. Cox, who will turn 17 on Monday, will attend USA Basketball’s U-19 national team trials in Colorado Springs next month. She already owns gold medals with the 2013 U-16 FIBA Americas team and the 2014 U-17 FIBA world championships team.

According to a recruiting source, UConn has no official visits set up for the spring. The Huskies already have two oral commitments from the Class of 2016 from Crystal Dangerfield (5-5 guard, Murfreesboro, Tennessee) and Kyla Irwin (6-2 forward, State College, Pennsylvania).

I think I picked Texas. I thought about this some more and I do not like the Texas pick. I'm picking Baylor all the way. :)
