Lose to K-State and drop to 2-3, while K-State moves to 5-0.

And Mizzou wants to go play in the SEC... What a bunch of losers.

But, but.....they are as good as anybody not named Bama/LSU.

They better sign that Big 12 paperwork, and stay right where they belong, and enjoy winning the North on occassion once we get back to 12 teams.

The Big XII should be able to kick them out. Since they have abstained from voting on certain issues and their president has stepped down from a committee that should be grounds for dismissal.

They bring nothing to the Big XII. Never have. Doubtful the SEC will take them but you never know from those dumb southern rubes.

I'm guessing you're making that up...doubt even a Missouri fan would say something that stupid.

If one were to look at the Big XII since its inception, Missouri would have to be ranked around #6 or #7 out of 12. If they go to the SEC, they'll battle aTm for #9 out of 14. Vandy, Kentucky, Mississippi and Mississippi State are a slight step down from them. That's why I said in another thread that going to a minor bowl would be a realistic annual goal for the Tigers. However, they should be a top 5 conference team in basketball.

Pinkel is good for a game or two like this every year.

His loyalty borders on stubborn on a good day and is one of the qualities that has helped him build Missouri into a consistent winning team vs. the two decades of sub-.500 teams prior to his arrival. But that same personality trait often leads to a refusal to admit when something (or someone) isn't working. He's slow to adjust when things don't go his way.

Doesn't really change how I view this season. I went in thinking around 8 wins, and now it's looking more like 6-7, but either way it was going to be a transition year with a minor bowl.

It also doesn't change how I view the SEC (or how the SEC views MU). I still think MU is solidly in the middle tier of that conference over time, at our peak able to compete with just about anyone (2007 would've absolutely pushed for an SEC title), at our worst still being better than their worst. According to the updated Sagarin ratings, MU would currently rank 9th in the SEC (including A&M) and 4th in the East, which fits with where I always said I'd expect them to be.

FWIW, apparently there's going to be a vote tomorrow by SEC presidents on Mizzou to the SEC East.

LOL, yeah... I don't recall anyone here saying Mizzou would consistently be the 3rd best program in the SEC. What some were arguing (myself included) was that based off recent trends, Mizzou probably wouldn't be a typical bottom-dweller should they move to the SEC next season.

Their next game against Iowa State is beyond critical for them... They've played better than their record indicates; their opponents' record from their 3 losses is a combined 15-1, and Mizzou made it a game in each loss. Nevertheless, they need to get it together given they still have to play 4 more ranked teams. I agree with Sawyer that 6 or 7 wins is probably their ceiling at this juncture.

Sawyer said Mizzou would be equal with Georgia & Tennessee and ahead of Arkansas, and would average finishing 3-6 on a regular basis while contending for the conference title in certain years. Lol Look above. He said again they would have pushed for the SEC title in 2007.

He calls this a transition year for Mizzou. Last year they couldn't beat out a sorry Nebraska team to win the North then lost the lowly insight.com bowl.

Its time to face facts. Sawyer, like most all Missouri fans, knows absolutely nothing about football.

Please SEC, take them off our hands so we can replace them with Louisville.

Do your fans, AD and President understand you will be in the SEC east? That will further hurt your Texas recruiting.

I don't doubt that. That 2007 Missouri team was REALLY good. We were just a horrific matchup for them.

The Big XII was just really that bad in 2007. Anyway a team with mid major talent like Missouri would never, ever contend for a title in the SEC. Missouri recruits to their alltime ranking or even a tad below. They are one of the 30-50 best programs out there and there is a multitude of data to back that up.

The more I think about it the conference should stick with 9 teams if they leave. You just take their $ share and market the remaining elite programs instead of throwing that money down the black hole that is Missouri athletics.

Well, I just remember that Mizzou team fairly easily handling every team they played but us. And that includes Arkansas, who went into Baton Rouge and defeated the eventual national champion.

All of college football was really that bad in 2007. Once a decade or so, this happens - 1984 and 1990 are two other examples. In '84, BYU won the title after beating a 6-5 team in the Holiday Bowl. In '90, Colorado won a share of the title with a loss, a tie, and one win because of getting an extra down.

Yes, Missouri and even Kansas may have been upper-tier SEC teams in 2007. I'm sure this can happen on occasion. For now, Missouri would be considered the 9th or 10th best team in that conference. I'm guessing Sawyer rates them higher based just on recent seasons. Yes, I'll take Missouri over Tennessee over the past 5 years...wouldn't even be close. However, if Tennessee gets the right coach (and they eventually will), who do you think will be the better team 5 years from now?

I put little stock in bowl games that aren't for the NC. Anybody really want to argue that Boise or WV were actually better than those OU teams they beat? Nope. Bowl games are almost like exhibition games. I find them useless as far as determining how good somebody is or is not.

The post season in college football in general is meaningless. It might as well be a different season some times.

Boise? Nah. We were better.

West Virginia? Those dudes were also really good. Total fluke that they lost to Pittsburgh, and they responded by kicking the dog **** out of us.

Boise dominated our lines on both sides the first half or 3 quarters or so. They just wore down and won with trick plays late. But when they built that 28-10 lead they dominated us.

That sure isn't how I remember that game. I recall OU playing extremely flat and giving up a couple of big plays, including a pick 6 to start the third quarter. Boise State did nothing on offense the entire second half of that football game until the very end of the game when they tied the game with a trick play.

I definitely understand where you're coming from. In terms of overall tradition, of course Missouri does not compare to the Tennessee's and Georgia's. Should Missouri relocate, it all depends how their success plays out: If they are like the Missouri of old, then of course they will hardly be nationally relevant, if ever. If they are like the Missouri of the last 5-6 seasons, then I think finishing between 3-6 (on average) is not far-fetched. Nor do I think the opinion of them being good enough to compete for the SEC title in 2007 was far-fetched, either. LSU had a litany of close games that went down to the wire, and lost to worse teams than Missouri losing to OU.

Also, Missouri was good enough to beat OU at home last season, and finished in the Top 20 in the polls. I agree that Nebraska was lousy compared to their great Tommy Frazier and Eric Crouch days, but they too finished in the Top 20 in the polls. Compared to the rest of the teams in college football last year, both Mizzou and Nebraska were pretty good.

I've watched the game a few times. The first half or a bit more Boise ran the ball for every bit of 70 or 80 yards with Ian Johnson that first half. And most of the time the first half they just lined up and beat OU. Now OU's depth wore that down somewhere in the 3rd quarter or so. But also OU ran the ball for about 3 yards a carry for most of the first part of the game also. That changed around the 3rd quarter also. Watch the game sometime and you'll be shocked how Boise dominated the first half or 3 quarters.
